Best way to recover after losing logbook

Smart people are well informed of the risks of smoking and choose not to do something so expensive, addictive and detrimental to their health.
Other things dumb people do:
-smoking cigars
-chewing tobacco
-leaving your house/car unlocked
-speeding
-drinking coffee with anything in it in addition to the beans
-buying food that's not on the perimeter of the grocery store(FYI, if it's in an isle, it isn't fresh or more naturally produced)
-eating fast food
-drinking dark soda
-living beyond your means
-go into a line of work and then complain about it
-leave the lights on
-go outside without sunscreen
-swim without sunscreen
-mow grass without hearing protection
-listen to loud music
-drinking water when you're not thirsty
-ect. ect. ect.

I can go on and on and on. Most of these will do you in(at the very least from an aero medical standpoint) before smoking cigarettes will. Every single person on this planet does stupid things and is actually quite dumb in many regards. Get over yourself buddy! Jesus, did you and PeanuckleCRJ eat a poop breakfast with a glass of pee this morning? This is irrelevant to the discussion and quite juvenile and rude.

Am I going to quit smoking? After the 4th of July, you bet.

I lost mine, at the time I was using one of those little bitty ones that was fashionable for airline pilots at the time. I asked my airline for a copy of my hours since I got hired -- they keep these for flight / duty time purposes. Unfortunately, it wasn't a per flight basis, didn't include any instrument time or landings and it was just a per day basis -- then I tracked down as many of the captains I flew with as I could (I worked in a small base so it wasn't impossible) and copied from their books. Then I used the per-day numbers from the airline to fill in.

Oh, then I went electronic.

Yeah, I have all my data transfer forms for my flights with instrument time on them as well as the approach. Well most of them at least. I have my hobbs/tach sheets from the survey flying and can probably get my students 8710s from the free lance days. I'm thinking of just going with the suggestion of putting a beginning entry of my flight time at the time I started at Flight Express and redoing those entries and then just backing up that entry with an envelope containing proof of the flight time.

Electronic logbook is being setup as I type this!

My regional airline interview, upgrade to captain checkride, and interview at legacy carrier all included someone paging through my logbooks.

1. Stop smoking. Only the laziest people I've flown with smoke and they rarely amount to anything. It's annoying, smelly, and makes you look like a lazy dummy. The worst people I've ever flown with were always smokers. Stop.

2. As as has previously been stated- start a new logbook with prior verified time. As you seem to have done, back up that verified time as much as possible.

1. Some of the dumbest people ive ever met are arrogant a-holes who make sweeping generalizations against an entire group of people. It makes you look like a lazy dummy. The worst people ive ever flown with were always a holes. Stop.

2. Great advice if I ever decide to go to a regional. Its going to take more than 24k to get me to start doing math in my logbook, though.

Yeah, i didnt see what smoking had to do with a logbook. I quit smoking about a month ago when i moved and my boss started bitching about it, it actually isnt that hard if you get around a group of people that doesnt smoke.

Indeed, which is why I picked the 4th. I need a good stretch with no holidays. Reduce as many of the triggers as possible. I've done a lot of reading about the specifics of the addiction and the ACTUAL health risks(which aren't that detrimental in moderation). I did quit for about a week and the first 3 days are definitely the hardest. You're fighting the withdrawal and the triggers. After 3 days, it's SO much easier. I don't remember why I relapsed into it. Probably women related. :D

The topic at hand is done I'd say. Since I'm a resident thread hijacker, I'll do it to myself, and of course: :smoke:

Not sure how this turned into a pro/anti smoking thread, but since you all asked:

This is her now:

This is how she will end up:

Are you serious? I used to be a smoker and I was far from lazy or unmotivated. That is such an ignorant statement. One of the best guys I've flown with was a smoker. So, I'm not sure how you came to that rationalization.

By no means am I saying smoking does the body good, clearly it doesn't. But if someone chooses to smoke, than that is their decision.

"My grandfather smoked 2 packs a day and drank to excess every night, and it was a direct cause of his death at the age of 96."

My poor great aunt, same sad story. Just passed away at 99 last week. Might have made it to 100 without the booze & smokes.

To quote the great late H.S.T:
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
Hunter S. Thompson

Your quote is used incorrectly - in order for it to be applicable the behavior in question has to adventurous and enjoyable. Smoking is an addictive habit that most people get neither out of.

Well actually, his quote is mostly in reference to using psychedelic drugs and performing other lewd acts. Non of us are condoning smoking. Is it something one shouldn't do? Yes. Is there some underlying character flaw as implied by a few posts in this thread? Nope. I can think of thousands of other things to be more concerned with in a person's character.

When I was in school one of the really old school instructors told me to not trust anyone in this business who didn't drink and/or smoke. He was one of those guys you see in the old movies sitting on the wing of a fighter with no shirt on as it taxied out on some island somewhere. My .02, YMMV.

Meh, wild sweeping generalizations and stereotypes don't get anyone anywhere. Bigoted, unwarrented personal attacks are things most people don't put up with. I don't care if you're a mod and/or someone further along in this field. Hence why a few of us have gone on the defensive in this thread. If I had started a thread in the lav titled "HEY EVERYONE, I SMOKE!!! U MAD?", sure attack away. But this had nothing to do with the topic at hand and was quite disrespectful and riduculous.

Forgive me for venting a bit in describing what was taken to paint a picture of how it was pretty clearly a deliberate act. Since most people don't smoke, I was finding it hard to be a mistake. Which is where this all started really.

Suggest you reread my post, I'm agreeing with you. And yes I do smoke.
