This is the best explanation of SJS I have seen

Although the point is well-taken, I find it surprising that the focus of that writing was on jetBlue. They seem to have pretty decent pay for 190s and live/fully automated FliCa, which lets you manipulate the crap out of your schedule. Correct me if I'm wrong, please!

SJS is like herpes.

Once tagged, you will always it, it will come and go with varying levels of intensity. Maybe sometimes you will be over the regional job, but at some point, you will want nothing else.

Disclaimer: I do not have herpes.

Even though you're on Zovirax and not communicable, you technically still have Herpes my friend! :) :sarcasm:

Actually, no.

I was engaged in a conversation with my boss' assistant regarding the boss' desire to buy a G-IV. With enthusiasm, he said "that's like an automatic [male reproductive organ] extension for you as a pilot!" I told him that unless it came with a drastic salary increase, hiring more pilots, and afforded me more weekends at home, it was just another airplane and another pain in the ass for our already overburdened flight department.

I get what y'all or saying but better than the 'hub???

The "'Hub" throwing career fairs for the users and buying rounds of drinks for the users? :)

If so, perhaps we ought to collaborate! :)

I want to fly VFR for a while and truly appreciate it before moving on to IFR and so on.

+1

More people should do this, if for nothing else to pause and reflect on what they are doing, rather than forge ahead into a career doing something they may not really enjoy. A lot of folks go to college and push through only to realize that they did not enjoy what they were studying, and end up not liking the field they chose. Flying is the same way. A lot of pilots try to see just how fast they can get their tickets, get in the "just gotta finish" college mindset, and miss the scenery along the way. Of all things, aviation is not going anywhere, it is changing from what it used to be, but so is every other field. If flying is what you really want to do, then there will be opportunities, no need to rush, UAVs are not going to replace the pilot anytime soon, the world is too f'd up to get that act together anytime soon.

I took a breather after my ppl, and spent about a year flying cross country trips here and there, some just for fun, and others to really test my skills. Taking my time, I feel I have a much better grasp on things than if I had cranked it out in a week somewhere, or jumped straight into my IR training.

You do not necessarily have to have all your CC time before IR training, as you get some during IR, but I did get most of mine beforehand, and I think it was valuable, because I was tracking navaids and learning the system without the added pressure of full IFR training. Going for a CPL, its not like you have anything else to do during that time anyway. Might as well enjoy the time while you can go where you want, when you want IMHO.

It's just an oral exam but I heard it blows.

Not cool man! Not cool! I was happy living in denial. I only drank the kool-aid for 2 WEEKS man, 2 WEEKS! There's gotta be a cure.

I got distracted by something shiny while typing this.
