I check this site everyday. The information here is invaluable. After months of trying to figure out what I wanted to do in terms of a career in life...I still am not sure what I want to do.

However, I do know one thing:
I am officially cured of this horrible disease known as SJS. Being born with a high chance of catching the disease, it was only a matter of time before I was officially diagnosed with it. It was a tough battle. I thought it was something that would never leave me and that I would eventually come down with the obvious symptoms (all my tickets in 4 days and 16 hours, cfi until anyone will hire me, pay off debt until i'm 45 which will then be replaced by alimony payments). However, I fought and feel like the battle is over.

Ok, in all seriousness. The airline industry just isn't for me. IF I go into any type of commercial aviation, it would have to be something along the lines of corporate aviation but again...there's no real rush. I should be done with my Private soon and when I am, I actually want to use it. I want to fly VFR for a while and truly appreciate it before moving on to IFR and so on.


Sidenote: I'm not bashing anyone else's decision on their career choice. This is just my personal opinion on my own views. I no want no trouble!
 
Well I'm just replying. No way I can take ANY credit. It is really nice of Doug to invite us into his living room. I guess that means that's where his servers are. Yes, SJS is real. I had it for about 2 weeks, and then I worked at an FBO and talked to real pilots and got a dose of reality talking to them. The schools are all about the hype and some really extra sugar kool-aid. Just don't drink it and you'll be fine.

they all look pretty similar from the inside...don't they. It's the views that change.
 
Funny thing is, when you get up close and personal with most of these "Shiny Jets", they ain't so shiney.

I wouldn't look at anyone askew who went to work for a regional airline like ASA, XJT, SkyWest... 3rd year FO will make close to what I make flying a Caravan for a FedEx feeder but have more days off per month. I am home every day though, but there is no upgrade and the part 121 turbofan time is seen as much more valuable to employers.

It's all a trade off, mang.

If I was real serious about trying to get on with a 121 major I would get on with a regional and get me some of that shiny jet FO time to marry with my 1000+ hours of turbine suburban time but I would really like to get on with a fractional or air ambulance outfit near where I live. Or one of the home based charter outfits like Omni, or something similar to that.

Shiny Jet Syndrome!!!

I'll fly one of them shiny jets for free! It's all I want to do is be a professional pilot!!! I'll undercut anyone or even pay for a right seat and bump another paid FO out of a job to DEW IT

Haven't had the opportunity to fly a JEEEET yet. I have been in the cockpit of a 757 and a A319, A318 and a bunch of other aircraft, Lear 31-35, G4, Lockheed Starjet, Legacy, Global Express and many others. Pretty cool stuff. The 75 was a ATA charter coming through the FBO. The FO was letting me sit in the left seat, he was letting me play with the FMS and the autopilot. Cool stuff! I did get to do a bunch of rides in an MU-2, that was awesome. Got some stick time in that bird in the lower flight levels and got to do a couple takeoffs and climb outs to cruise . I love the sound of those Garrett's. That is the sweetest whine I have ever heard screaming.
 
Hey, you guys make the site! I just keep the lights on and have my henchmen bust kneecaps whenever people put their feet on the furniture! ;)

I have seen more than one stary-eyed new First Officer get a look of near disgust on their face when they see how dirty and not so polished the airplanes really are.

What else would you expect from an airplane that works for a living? :dunno:
