Best pilot job website?

Callador

New Member
Quick question for you guys. What is the best pilot job website for someone with my kind of time? (1700TT 400 multi, ATP mins) I bought a month subscription at climbto350, but most of those jobs are for people with extensive turbine/jet time in type. Are there better ones for someone with less experience?

I think I have a job lined up for January, but since it is not 100% I hate to stop looking. I always check this website for the jobs people post, and that has been a lot of help.

Thanks in advance.

Seriously. There is no need to pay for that information.

Best? Make lots of friends, shake lots of hands and keep your nose clean on the forum because I absolutely guarantee that someone is reading your posts who is in a position to help you.

And we're free.

I'm going to step on some toes with this one, and so be it. But in this economy, charging pilots looking for employment is as heartless as promising someone who is dying of starvation a map of how to get to a food kitchen, if he just signs up for our $9.95/month "findsoupkitchens.com" plan.

Yup, I said it.

To the sensitive webmasters who may have gotten their feelings hurt, please save the threatening email and send any appropriate, spell-checked, legal threats to:

PO Box 12391
Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

If it's not signed by a lawyer and on paper, I'm going to laugh at your email threatening legal action! :) I love those things, they're entertaining!

^^ This!

The Aviation business is most know for "its all about who you know" when trying to find a job. Buddy of mine got a right seat job flying for Sun Country with super low TT just becuase his dad is a manager within the company.

Im not saying that you have to know someone to get a job, but boy does it help.

As far as websites, this is by far the best I have seen.

Doug,

As everyone knows, face to face contact and networking can be one of the best ways to find a job. However, being an owner of an aviation employment jobsite, I take offense to your remarks. I think there is some validity in what you say in regards to some websites out there, but I think it is unfair for you to cast a large net over all websites that offer resume services.

My intent here is not to advertise for my website, but I have no shame in posting that <moderated> recognizes the state of the current economy, and is involved in doing what we can to help pilots and other aviation professionals find work. That is why, in light of the recent Netjets furloughs, we are working in conjunction with the Netjets pilot union, and have donated $30,000 worth of memberships to their pilots affected by the furloughs. We have also extended free memberships to other personnel in the industry. During the NBAA show last month we worked the floor and handed out hundreds of business cards with an offer for free membership on the back. In fact, this was posted on this website, and those posts were removed; Deemed as unauthorized advertising.

We have also started a not-for-profit organization called <moderated> and are working with sponsors such as Professional Pilot Magazine, a large Chevron/Texaco fuel distributor, Millionaire Burbank, as well as one of the nation's largest charter operators to shed light on the number of aviation professionals out of work and to do what we can to help them get back to work. You should know that tomorrow our organization will be having a conference call with a VP of a large flight training company about joining the cause.

My suggestion is instead of giving the job websites grief and lumping us all in the same category; perhaps you should join us and contribute to <moderated> Saying and doing are two completely different things. If you feel passionately enough about something to make a statement, then we challenge you to make a bigger statement and join us and provide sponsorship or donations to <moderated> .

The website, < moderated > will be going live soon. We invite everyone to help make a difference.

Running JC for over a decade and 50,000-plus posts, I think I've made plenty of statements and I am absolutely stand firmly that we need to stop turning on other pilots for revenue streams in a time of a deep industry crisis.

Most of the guys that I know that frequent the jobs section of our forum are laid-off or furloughed. I couldn't imagine saying "Hey, I know you're out of a job, but give me some money and maybe I can help you find employment. And if you sign up for 90 days, you'll save over 20% over other aviation job sites, ACT NOW while supplies last!"

Ehh... That's not how I roll.

Keep in mind I started Jetcareers during the day when if you had a question about an issue like airline scheduling, your only alternatives were to as a guy at your guard unit (if you were military) or plunk down $100's of dollars for the Air Inc/Kit Darby/FAPA products.

I met Darby and asked him a question about age limits in the OCS and he kindly offered to give me a discount on his book. He couldn't simply say "Hey, you're under the maximum age to start UPT if selected", I was directed to plunk down $30 for a book with all the answers about careers in military aviation.

Hell, I was a starving CFI, and that was going to cost almost three hours of dual given and a little shocking because I was one of those guys that lived on Taco Bell's 49-cent bean burritos, much to my students chagrin.

There is absolutely no way in hell I'd charge a pilot looking for employment because would I be any better than Kit Darby that day when he suggested I buy his book instead of just saying "as long as you're not 27 yet" (or whatever it was at the time) and then I probably would have been motivated to buy the book at a later date once I had the money.

If we, as professional aviators, focus on helping one another attain our career goals we're going to be eventually be able to rebuild the industry into a profession that when our kids say "Daddy, I want to be a pilot like you", we can be proudly supportive - rather than "You're crazy. Go to medical school, then buy an airplane."

Many of my users I've met face-to-face, drank beer with, work(ed) with, visited in foreign countries or are on my speed dial on my telephone. The concept of having a monthly "cover charge" to find help is terrible.

Besides, I'm hoping that the guy I was able to help today, might be in a position to help me down the road.

I agree that it is all about who you know. My Dad told me that a while back. He got his first gig just by talking to the chief pilot at the EAA airshow in Oshkosh.

I sort of have that now. I interviewed with Seaborne Airlines a couple of weeks ago. They have lots of applicants, but I got the interview because of a friend. I will find out of I got the job at the end of the month.

I am originally from WI, but I work out of Columbus, MS. Lots of military pilots, but the civilian side stuff is dead. I try to chat with people from time to time, but again the FBO is usually empty unless a bunch of T-6's or T-1's are overnighting.

I really enjoy the job section on this site and I read jetcareers all the time. I haven't posted much in the past, but started looking in early '06 and made my account after I got my commerical in June of '06.

Why would you censor his nonprofit stuff? A little heavy-handed, don't you think?

Scott, I'm interested to learn just what you're doing, please send me a PM with the info that was censored above.

Matt, this guy has posted his 'ads' on here in 80% of his posts. In our free community website, he is trying to get guys who are starving to pay him. I consider THAT heavy handed. Most every one here who has a good attitude, and dispayes good SA can get a job by networking right here on JC.

There are plenty who advertise here, and he is welcome to advertise his business here, if he gives a solid value and the webmaster is so inclined.
If you remember the old saying, "ass, gas or grass nobody rides for free!"

I understand all that, but I don't see the point of censoring links to the non-profit org he says he's started. He's made only four posts, and all but the one in this thread have magically disappeared, so it's not like he's spamming the site.

Maybe you guys have taken a wait-and-see approach on this "non-profit", I dunno, but to suggest that JC is the only source of networking anyone will ever need is a little silly.

those posts were the 80% that were "advertising" his site. They weren't even straightforward, " come try my site", more like a "hey did you know about "this" pilot job website?"

No one is saying this is the be all end all, but this is a free site. Opportunities abound here. Free of charge. All that is asked is that we help the next guy along. I think that trying to make a buck by spam advertising a business on a forum that has remained free while others are charging a fee to its members, particularly since he has been asked politely to stop four times, makes his lack of respect for Jetcareers apparent, and it makes me wonder why he is here if not to take advantage of our membership. If he really wanted to get in the spirit he couuld have contacted Dough and asked if he could offer a free trial membership to any JC member who was looking for work.

I'm not trying to bust anyones pool cue, but I'm just sayin';)

Doug doesn't have many rules and while users may not agree with them, they will need to abide by them.

Simple enough !

Ouch! My ankles, my ankles! :) OMG my ankles!

Instead of trying to spark a online populist revolution, take a peek at the terms and conditions of the website.

all but 1 have been deleted due to spamming. that's why you can't see the other 3 posts anymore.

i don't think anyone ever suggested JC was "the only"....just that we don't think it's right to have to pay to try and find a job or spam the site without talking to the owner and going thru proper channels.

AGAIN, I'm not talking about his pay-to-play site. I get that.

But if his non-profit thing is legit, I don't see any reason why you'd want to ban links to it if it helped people find work.

Your opinion has been noted.

Again.

Aaaaaand again. It doesn't get any more final than that.

Have a great day!

Ahahhahaha. (beavis and butthead lawyer guy) I am going to sue YOU, I am going to sue the SCHOOL SYSTEM, I am going to sue THE STATE, I am going to sue THE JUDGE... (/bblg) ;)

Back on topic a little more... < moderated > seems to be pretty active. I personally haven't had any luck from it beyond just making it through a few rounds with some people. Who knows though... lotta guys out on the street. Just for reference I'm at 1700tt 876multi and 826 turbine.

Good luck with the Seaborne thing! When you get it, please remind us on the streets know what it's like flying for a living again =P
