Best noise cancelling headset for your money?

I retrofitted my david clark h10-40s with an ANR kit for about 100 bucks and the performance is excellent. They are quieter than the bose headset I tried but not as comfortable.

Bose. For the product and customer service. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and will never own another.
I actually sent mine back to Bose two weeks ago for some minor repairs-started going through batteries every 10-15 hours vs. 35-40 I had been getting. They rebuilt the headset. The only original parts that came back were the actual ear cup.
I did own a Lightspeed 30-3G. The most expensive piece of junk I've ever owned. Heavy, clamped on my head pretty tight, over sized ear seals were too big and uncomfortable, the smaller ones collapsed and the noise canceling would get to close to my ear causing feed back. Twice the headset just died. No passive, no active-nothing. I called Lightspeed and they sent the parts to me to fix-which required the removal of the plug ins which required me to dissasemble the headset. Oh, and they sent the parts Parcel Post.

Depends on what you are flying, in piston twins and turbo props you can't go wrong with the Bose, I've tried it side-by-side with my old Lightspeed and the Bose won hands down. In singles and jets the Bose is about even because there isn't much noise to attenuate.

I had the Bose, they were stolen and I bought the X11. I should have bought another pair of Bose, they're great.

I have lightspeed ZULU and love them. It is much cheaper then the bose and I prefer them to the bose. They work great in the turbo prop and when I do GA flying I can plug in my ipod or bluetooth connect my phone. that is a very nice feature.

Never owned the bose but I have used them while a buddy tried out the ZULU, both great headsets

Headsets Inc and their conversion had this link to a report:

The full report is a worthwhile read and located at the bottom of the page here:

Reading thru it makes me pissed I didn't get a Bose back in my primary training - my hearing is probably trashed now!!

FWIW Their conversion was almost as good as the Bose X and came highly recommended. I might look into buying it.

Headsets are a very personal item and you need to try them. As an example, you can tell from the previous posts that many pilots swear by the Bose. However they gave me and my wife wicked hot spots so I'm glad I did not buy a pair.
The Zulus are great- but not for what I do. In aerobatic flights they are too lose for me.
So I have my 30-3Gs. They clamp a little more than the Zulus and Bose, but I like that when pulling Gs.

I picked up a used Pilot USA PA-1779T ANR headset.

I liked it. I got it for about $200.

you can't go wrong with either they Bose or Lightspeed ZULU, both are good...I personally love the bose and won't by another headset every (maybe an in-ear down the road)

BTW isn't the Telex 850 use power from the A/C to power its ANR anyone have info on that?
