Best noise cancelling headset for your money?

I was going to get a Bose X until it was pointed out to me that what if the ANR dies for some reason (battery or w/e). The Bose has almost no isolation apart from the ANR.

forgot to turn the ANR on once, wasn't bad at all in a 172

I did own a Lightspeed 30-3G. The most expensive piece of junk I've ever owned.
INteresting because I own a pair of those and I love them. Not as comfy as the bose or zulu's but also not as expensive. crazy how much quieter teh ANR is vs my old DC's. I haven't had to deal with customer service yet though and that is a huge part of owning any electronics for me.
Just goes to show that everyone is different though I guess. :dunno:

I called Lightspeed and they sent the parts to me to fix-which required the removal of the plug ins which required me to dissasemble the headset. Oh, and they sent the parts Parcel Post.

I've had the total opposite experience from Lightspeed's service department.

As for the best headset, its whatever fits YOUR head. only you know that.

My experience with Lightspeed has been similar to yours. I abused my first Lightspeed (purchased in 1998)- flew with it every day doing night fright and in the ATR-72. Worked like a champ; when it broke due to abuse they fixed it. Actually, they refurbished it.
Same with my current 30-3G.

I love my zulus for almost everything. I like the bose too, but the zulus just fit better when I tried them on, so whatever works for you, try them both if you can. But as previous posters have said, it depends on the type of flying you do.

The Zulus are great- but not for what I do. In aerobatic flights they are too lose for me.

while mine stay on just fine, even with the ANR and volume all the way up they are kind of worthless in the extra...so again, a very personal item...try more than one set before shelling out the dough.

That's really no reason. There is a long warning period where an amber and red light flashes progressively to to change the battery. I've went on hours with it on and it never died. No ANR is still OK, better than nothing at all like it was in the old days!

Headsets are a very personal item and you need to try them. As an example, you can tell from the previous posts that many pilots swear by the Bose. However they gave me and my wife wicked hot spots so I'm glad I did not buy a pair.

So I have my 30-3Gs. They clamp a little more than the Zulus and Bose, but I like that when pulling Gs.

I had a totally opposite experience with my Bose Vs Zulu's. During my aerobatic days I had the bose and just weren't comfortable, didn't really old to all the different noises in the 7ECA, just go through batteries, and fall off. When the Zulu's came out, I bought them and thought they were much much better. Cheaper, more comfortable, better on batteries, better noise canceling, and the iphone/bluetooth connection is awesome too. A week later sold my Bose and never looked back.

Depends on what ur flying, 172/warrior i dont really notice a difference in the anr its almost not worth the money, But at work i fly a cessna 210/beech baron sometimes 8 hrs a day 8+ if something goes wrong and there is a huge difference, i used my buddys bose and turned off anr and i ripped the headset off my head it actually sounded louder than with out a headset at all. I bought the zulu and as far as ANR they are about the same i find the zulu a bit more comfratable but its probably personal preferance. With the anr off on the zulu its slightly louder than my david clarks(passive only).

As far Light Speed's warranty its great I saw a post of someoen complaining that they sent parts, but honestly if they can send me parts and I install them and it gets my headset working quicker im all for it. But then again im a technical person and i like the challenge of fixing things Today I got out of the plane and my cord was caught on my leg and i didn't realize it and it yanked the cored hard enogh to break a wire internally. I called light speed and they gave me a RMA and an address and said if i ship it today i should get it back in 3-5 days.

Just got a Bose headset two weeks ago and I love it. And, it's made in the USA. I previously used David Clarks (13.4 or something like that) without ANR, and I was very pleased with them as well.

I'm curious if anyone has tried the Lightspeed Mach 1's. They are the in-ear headset that looks really nice (and comes with a coupon if you will for free in-ear molded pieces). I fly in the desert 5 months out of the year and although I quite love my Bose...I'm getting tired of the swamp ear. Not to mention with nothing on my head it's a little cooler and more tolerable.

I've tried the CA's...but they just don't fit me.

Bose. Nuff said! Hands down the best. Just always keep spare batteries in your flight case. Super quiet and very comfortable. They also have a pretty good payment deal too. Its like 150.00 first payment and then they charge a credit or debit card once a month for 12 months about 60 bucks a month. No interest or any other fees at all.
