Ha, LeTourneau. Yeah, I know a guy who's going there, except for pilot school, not CTI. Specifically, his degree is in "mission aviation"; supposed to have some sort of emphasis in flying older stuff, taildraggers, things you're supposedly going to find in the third world. Meanwhile, they train in brand new 172's with G1000's. Riding next to the guy in the backseat while supporting a mutual friend's XC flight, he kept talking about all of his "missions" to India, Africa, China, blah blah blah... right.
Anyway. I briefly looked at their CTI program a month or two ago. Seems pretty overpriced, just like everything else there. I'll take CCBC over them any day.
On the video game note... I've actually heard (from controllers) that there's some marginal value in it when it relates to ATC. Mostly in the sense of being able to handle multiple sources of information and multitask it efficiently. Obviously you'll never see it on a test or hear it in an interview, but look at Scenarios and Letter Factory on the AT-SAT; they're games, albeit games designed to measure certain aptitudes. And when I went to visit a nearby Class C up-down, one of the first things the ATM asked was, "So, you any good at video games? People good at games often do well with radar stuff."
I told him that I knew that if I killed hookers in GTA that I could get my money back. Whatever, I didn't want to work at that tower anyway.
Anyway, moral of the story... don't expect that holding the high score in your neighborhood on your XBox to get you a better facility, but feel free to use it in justifying buying FIFA 09 to your wife.
