Check out the link... You've gotta love these marketing people. They claim this as a "christian university," aiming to fill "17,000 jobs NOW."

Thou shalt not... mislead gaming addicts into accumulating massive debt?

with a lot of people on the streets, this is actually looking tempting for people who don't know the truth behind this.

Ha, LeTourneau. Yeah, I know a guy who's going there, except for pilot school, not CTI. Specifically, his degree is in "mission aviation"; supposed to have some sort of emphasis in flying older stuff, taildraggers, things you're supposedly going to find in the third world. Meanwhile, they train in brand new 172's with G1000's. Riding next to the guy in the backseat while supporting a mutual friend's XC flight, he kept talking about all of his "missions" to India, Africa, China, blah blah blah... right.

Anyway. I briefly looked at their CTI program a month or two ago. Seems pretty overpriced, just like everything else there. I'll take CCBC over them any day.

On the video game note... I've actually heard (from controllers) that there's some marginal value in it when it relates to ATC. Mostly in the sense of being able to handle multiple sources of information and multitask it efficiently. Obviously you'll never see it on a test or hear it in an interview, but look at Scenarios and Letter Factory on the AT-SAT; they're games, albeit games designed to measure certain aptitudes. And when I went to visit a nearby Class C up-down, one of the first things the ATM asked was, "So, you any good at video games? People good at games often do well with radar stuff."

I told him that I knew that if I killed hookers in GTA that I could get my money back. Whatever, I didn't want to work at that tower anyway.

Anyway, moral of the story... don't expect that holding the high score in your neighborhood on your XBox to get you a better facility, but feel free to use it in justifying buying FIFA 09 to your wife.

I've been holding off at asking this...but I guess I'll just spit it out.

My husband is a Guild Master in WOW. He is also the Raid Leader of the top progression guild on his server. For those of you who don't know what means; he is in charge of directing 40 people (all of whom have very different jobs) during fast paced, high stakes boss fights called raids. Where to go, what to do, with second by second modification. He leads the best raid group on his server, in fact, I believe they have some world firsts as well.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway...I find this multi-tasking to be very indicative of his ATC aptitude. He isn't just good at single player games, he directs groups with amazing accuracy.

So when the interviewer asks, "What qualities do you have that would make you a good ATC." Should he mention any of this...or will they laugh him out of the interview?

yeah he should definetly tell them bc atc control is just like a video game:crazy:. No in seriousness, i haven't played video games since the original nintendo, and i absolutely murdered my pv. So i don't know if there is any advantage or not, being able to handle pressure is the best trait. We had a few people fail the p.v. and they seemed to be really smart but i guess it just wasn't their thing.

I don't know who his interviewer will be, but if I had told my interviewer that, I would have probably been given the most strange and awkward look. I wasn't asked about video games or anything like that; rather, I was asked about my ability to work with a team, how I handle stressful situations, etc.... Basic interview questions that have a direct link to the position.

I doubt claiming that you're a +5 dungeon master (is that even a real thing you can be? I don't play video games) would do much for you except make them think you still live in your parents' basement and have no social life.

Well that's my point...he plays highly coordinated team based games...

...but I guess the answer is no

I only said what I did because the interviewer I had didn't seem like the type that would even ask about gaming. I'm sure it could help, job-wise, but as far as the interview process goes, I wouldn't see any need or desire to bring it up.

Haha... We recently had some FAA folks come in for a speech, and one of the questions asked was "Is anyone in here a gamer?"

I am, but I did not raise my hand.

They did give us a free DVD, though.

why you no raise hand?

...we don't take kindly to you deep dark secret gamers...

...if you're ashamed of me then I'll just leave

I've made an idiot of myself enough times in class already. It's a daily occurrence. I try to save it for AFTER lunch, in most cases.
