Berry Aviation

Dayton, OH area I believe.

Thought the CA pay would be a little higher.

No. Cleveland, OH KCGF

The mileage really adds up. Also if you are on the road on a Saturday or Sunday, flying or not, you get $300 a day additionally.

$2000 a year salary increase and 2 cents a year mileage increase up to $55k base and 30 cents a mile.

Some of the E120 PIC's are into 6 figures. The others are close.

That being said please do not apply if you expect to have any sort of a schedule. We fly on demand freight, emphasis on ON DEMAND. I'm sick of people showing up on the line and asking what the plan is for the week. THERE IS NO PLAN YOU WILL KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING ONCE WE GET THERE!

I'm willing to bet you'll be in Texas, Michigan, Mexico and Canada.

You sound like a bundle of joy to fly with.

Hey no worries, I just want anyone considering this gig to understand what the deal is. For the record we have a pretty cool group flying freight, myself and most of the other guys hear really enjoy this job and are not going to be leaving for the foreseeable future unless something far better comes up.

Are you in HYI? Haven't made it out there in a while I'm out at NZY. We have been doing phases on site here rather than ferrying to Texas so haven't had a chance to get some Blacks bbq in forever!
Yep, and IMO Hays Co. BBQ is infinitely better.

Side note: We have a mission in the sim where you try landing on an aircraft carrier in the water by NZY. Short field landing practice.

Settle down captain happy.

I wouldn't give him too hard of time, I've flown with people that needed to know what the plan was for the next 7 days, and when things changed, got all wrapped around the axle about it. This was at a 91k operator with 30+ airplanes. It wasn't uncommon for our day to change 3 times in 24 hours, and some people just couldn't deal with it. All I knew and cared about was when I was going home. Beyond that I had zero expectations. As a result my stress level was much lower than the "who moved my cheese" people.

Any updates on this shop? Still a good place to work? Anyone know the pay for a metro sic in San Diego? Do they fly as much as the boys in San Marcos?

Last I herd 1st year metro FO pay on North Island was $26k. May have changed. I think they fly 4-500 hours a year but thats a FWAG. They do the same 20 minute flight over and over again...The plus side is your home every night with weekends and federal holidays off, oh and its a scheduled pax run. FAR different gig than the EMB cargo stuff.

The little "oh by the way" about North Island is, there is no reason for anyone to stay past 1500hrs TT. There are zero upgrade opportunities out there. The Captains are content with their QOL. If your a CFI in SoCAL and want to build some turbine time towards ATP mins it could be OK for a bit. A lot of turnover on the SIC side as of late.

Thank you! I was assuming it was a cargo gig like I had read about. I'm in the time building stage so I guess I'll keep looking. Thanks again

How does a guy get the chance to do the metros that go out to Kwaj and all that? I live out here in LIH and have wondered frequently where those guys are based.

Rob said it perfectly, all that info is still correct on pay and whatnot as I was in that exact operation about a year ago. The lack of movement from the content captains was a big reason I decided to get on with a regional. However, it IS an excellent way to build multi turbine time with a great schedule in a great city. You will put 10-15 hours a week in your logbook which isnt a ton but its something, and the flying is repetitive but easy. Its just about numbers in a logbook you likely wont learn a whole lot. QOL is very high. And there is a ton of opportunity for extra cash from airplane washes (250 per) and weekend ferry flights (250 per day) ... I made almost 6000 bucks extra in 9 months from those opportunities alone. The company was easy to deal with and training was very good. I liked their pay structure as it was every other Friday payday no matter what, some months you got paid 3 times which was cool. I still recommend them.

Kwajalean is a whole other wing of the company that always seemed a bit mysterious to me in my short time there, not sure how guys were getting that base out there.

This is a fair question. Very little off the street hiring into Kwaj. From what I hear most of the guys on that contract have been doing it for a long time and love it / have no intentions of ever leaving. You have to live out there as well. Its a small group.

If / when they do hire off the street for Kwaj I know that they want guys who at a minimum have a helo rating. Most pilots there are dual qualified and fly helos on the contract as well.

From friends who have TDY'd on the metro out there to fill in for guys vacations, they say its a beautiful place with some cool flying but you are stuck in a very small community in the middle of the Pacific which isn't everyones cup of tea.

See, I would very much like that lifestyle, but not rotor rated... Where are your guys OCONUS ops at? I know Kwaj, and I think I've heard one of your Metros going to PMDY, but other than that, I ain't sure.
