The Baron was the second multi engine airplane I flew. I got my ticket on a grunman cougar and then got a chance to fly the military T-42 ( Baron ), it messed me up at first because it was one of the older ones and the throttles were in the middle with the props on the left side. I was so confuse on that first flight ... been confuse ever since

Yup, that's how the Travel Air is too. My instructor had me do my engine out checks as if they were the "standard" configuration though:

"Mixtures, Props, Throttles full. flaps up. Gear up." ... that kind of thing, instead of the way it IS set up - which would be "Mixtures, THROTTLES, Props" if looking right to left.

That might make for an unhappy engine (and maybe mechanic).

No kidding! I did my initial multi in a Cougar too. Nice airplanes, shame not more of them were built. I have around 350 hours in a 1965 B55 Baron. One of THE finest airplanes I've ever flown.
