I dont know if this has been mentioned here but I have a few questions about banner towing.

What is required as far as hours go ?
How many hours do you average a month ?
Is it a good way to get hours ?

I have heard that banner towing is a real decent way to accumulate hours. It usually requires tail wheel experience. A commercial certificate is usually all that most companies require.

I called a local banner tow operator here on Long Island last summer. I was told to call by another pilot who now flies for UPS. He highly recommended the operation as safe and owned by a responsible gentleman. The UPS pilot had flown for them like 10 years ago. I had a commerical certificate, tailwheel endorsement, and about 300 hours. I was told that I would have gotten a job 2 years prior. The new insurance minimum was 500 hours, no questions asked. So I don't know if this is an industry-wide trend or just this particular operation. Currently I am working on my CFI, maybe this summer or next I can try again. Would be cool flying over Robert Moses, Jones, and Brighten Beaches one summer!

Thanks for the answers. This would be a beautiful way to get hours durring the summer.
