Baggy Pants Lead To Football Player’s Arrest

I read one place it was lounge pants, and one place it was boxers. Lounge pants can be worn on the street and often are. They are full length and often plaid. Some are sweatpants. Being summer I would guess it was boxers. You're right though, it wouldn't have been allowed in the Plymouth colony, the third reich or Saudi Arabia. Execute him.

I don't even really practice Judaism but I fear discrimination. This is what I live with in my daily life at work. I am certainly not the kind of guy to scream bloody murder and claim someone is an "anti Semite." I just want to get on with my life. So now I hide my religion from my coworkers.

It was really weird lying about not being Jewish for the first time. It kind of made me feel sick. At least I know what it is like to be discriminated against. It sucks.

Are you really being discriminated against? OR are you practicing self-discrimination, through what you describe?

Why should you have to hide anything? As there's no proverbial "gun to your head" forcing you to.

I've never experienced anything like what you described, but personally I wouldn't bring it up. Then when they expose themselves by making a racist comment, make it known that you are Jewish. I wouldn't come out and say it, but drop a not so subtle hint (casually mention it in a conversation on the phone, pull something symbolic out of your bag, etc). I guarantee you it will be more awkward for them than it will be for you.

Its kind of the same way I deal with a bad landing. Even if the captain says "wow man, we can stay up here with the door closed if you want." I always say no thanks and go stand proudly at the door. I think its actually more awkward for them than it is for me.

Again, this wasn't on the street. It was on a privately owned aircraft. Nice red herring and example of Godwin's law though.

Well I decided that there would be no good that could come out of me saying anything about my religion. It is because I am worried about what could happen to my career here. I don't want to give away where I work considering the subject matter. However upgrades etc are not based on seniority. So based on comments that I have heard from nearly every captain that I have flown with I have elected to not mention it, get upgraded and move on vs. make a big deal out of it and get singled out.

After flying with a captain that made a perticularly bad comment about Jews I vented in the company of my girlfriend, my brother and his girlfriend over dinner. My brothers girlfriend said "why didn't you say something" and added basically what you mention Emu. My brothers response echoed my thoughts exactly: "No, then his captain would be pissed about having a kike on the plane." Which is exactly my reason for keeping it all under wraps. There can be no good for mentioning it and I don't.

Its real its out there and it kinda sucks. I don't wear baggy pants...

I didn't call anyone a nazi amigo. Nice try. It is NOT a privately owned aircraft it is a corporately owned aircraft and a public conveyance. The rules of the application dress codes are a little more complicated than you think. The application of the law will be handled outside this forum, but I bet USAir will end up paying up.

Its unfortunate that you have to worry about what some would feel about your being Jewish. Its really none of their business and shouldn't affect them either way.

The only person who can be mad at you for being Jewish is Jesus.... :D :D :D

......I guess, unless you're with Jews for Jesus? :sarcasm:

Comparing to The Third Reich qualifies my friend. Regardless, USAirways has the right to set a dress code. I disagree that they will be paying anything. I hear there is video, hopefully it will provide some conclusive evidence, but you never know.

LOL. I just wonder why anyone even cares.

1. That was not my intent at all. If you can't see the difference sorry but it's wrong.
2. I hope you're right, and Airways is righteous in this-otherwise it would be disgusting.
3.One lesson I learned almost 2 decades ago in the Navy is that when you have authority, sometimes the most judicious use of that authority is to do nothing. IOW you can be totally right and at the same time wrong. I am fairly certain, this guy might have been a PITA, but this escalation is ridiculous.
4. I would bet that if the gate agent, flight attendant, and captain went to Doug Parker and asked if it was a good thing for Airways to have this redonkeylous thing to have happened I am certain they would have done it different.

Actually, whether it is owned by a corporation or an individual, it is still private property. A corporation is considered a citizen and can set dress codes for being on their property. Ever hear of "No shirt, no shoes, no service," or certain restuarants that require you to wear a tie and/or jacket?

As for being a public conveyance, when you buy a ticket, you are implicitly agreeing to the company's rules and regulations. Buried in the small print of the Contract for Carriage, it states you will comply with the company's dress code and instructions of the employees. Failure to comply can and will get you bumped. I don't think LCC will be paying, unless they throw the guy some coins to make him sign a non-disclosure agreement and effectively close his mouth and any bad press he may bring. I'll gaurantee you though that the NDA will state that LCC is not nor does it admit any wrong doing.

That is exactly what will most likely happen. You can be in the right and be wrong. Speaking of which I really need to bug out of this thread.
Sorry for the belicosity y'all I was doing an online ACCP, and anyone that does that could forgive me for my militancy :)

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground.... looking like a FOOO wit'yo pants on the ground.. :)
