Agreed. But, my stance is do that in a way that doesn't end with one of them going to jail based on your tip off and an airline pilot job yanked away because of the stupid friends "getting back" at him for it.

Neither one of those is wrong. But you'd get a more instant response with the later of the two, and based on what was happening, I'd rather do the later. In a situation like that, it's all about me, and nothing about being nice.
 
In response to some of the other posts... there was a wait list for room transfers and I was encouraged by my RA to "work it out". I attempted to "work it out" over a 2 month period. After 2 months of finding random people sleeping in my bed during the day, my personal items being stolen from the dorm, being kept up until 4am most nights, and hoping every single day that my roommates wouldn't get caught with alcohol and drugs in the room knowing I will have to share some of the blame and an automatic flight hold and possible termination from the school, along with 8am classes 5 days a week and private pilot flight training, I had enough. I spent several nights sleeping in my car to just to get some sleep. After 2 months I was exhausted and underperforming and I had enough of this "work it out" nonsense. If I'm paying to live in a dorm, I should at least be able to get some sleep, not worry about what property will be stolen next, and finding random people passed out in my bed.

Looking back, I was young and inexperienced with situations like this. I wouldn't have guessed at the time that they would retaliate by telling the police i was suicidal and homicidal, and I had no idea the impact this would have on my career so many years later.

So, based on the advice I've seen here, I am going to attend ATP-CTP and hold off on telling HR for now because I don't want to volunteer more information than I have to until they ask for it. I wish I knew right now that everything will be okay and HR will be understanding if/when they see the police report. I wish I knew what will happen, but
I'll just have to prepare a defense for if/when they ask about the content of the police report and hope HR will take my side this next time around.

One of the problems I will have to face is the content of the report is so shocking, and the fact that it's in a police report almost makes you feel compelled to believe it. So it's an uphill battle from the start.
 
I spoke to several attorneys who all told me there is nothing I can do to have the police reports removed or sealed. I was told the best thing I can do is ask the police to write a second police report stating that they did not take any law enforcement action about the matter and that was the end of it. I spoke with criminal, civil, and faa attorneys who all gave me the advice not to volunteer information but that there was really nothing they could do since it never touched the court system nor the FAA.
 
For a datapoint....

I'm in the process of onboarding with a large, nationwide accounting firm. I just signed the background check authorization form. It provides an area to describe any convictions you've had and specifically states to NOT include any sort of detention or interaction with law enforcement that did not end in a conviction. I can't believe you're getting hammered over some meaningless police report.
 
What if it's not the police report but the flight hold placed by the university? Or did we already squash that bug?

I'm getting dizzy. Think about these questions.

1) What's your credit score? Do you have any negative credit information? Have you looked at your report? Do you have joint credit or joint banking with anybody?

2) Have you ever had any employment issues? Were you ever fired? Are there any employers that you left out of your timeline?

3) Who are your personal and professional references? Do they know you were grounded during training? Have you spoken to them after your dismissal.

4) You seem to have target fixation on a police report. Have you seen it? Do you have a copy of it?

5) Do you have copies of your student health records?

6) Any bad relationships with psychos that wouldn't mind sinking your boat?

7) Does your history make you look like a winner or a loser? I'm not asking if there are any specific negative issues. Do you look like a slacker or underachiever on paper? Are you a late bloomer?

8) Any chance somebody with your name made a no-fly list?

9) What do you look like on social media?

10) Anybody share your name?

My spidey-sense tells me that you are barking up the wrong tree. I don't believe a private sector background check would mine the information you describe.

Have you initiated your own background check using a service like Sterling?

Stealing thing is worse. Had to deal with it once in college when things started going missing. It was ugly, but monetary compensation followed and the offending individual and his crap were re-accommodated to the street.
It's harder when people generally have no respect for your room though I'd imagine. I guess one way to go about it is to procure a good knife, develop an eye twitch and introduce yourself as "Loco"

The student health records purge after a certain time. When I called to ask for a copy, they told me I had less than a year left until they purged, but since I called, they're required to make a note that I called and that resets the clock. Also, they can only provide a summary of the report unless I "demand" the report in person which they said they don't recommend and doing so will not help me they said. I found the conversation to be extremely odd and very frustrating. So no, I don't have a copy and instead of purging in less than a year, it just got extended almost a decade.

Thank you for the questions. I have never heard of sterling but I will certainly look into it. I think that would be a great place to start. In regards to your questions, straight A student with many academic awards, volunteer and community involvement, and no bad credit.

So, student health services told you that requesting your records wouldn't help you? What the heck did you tell them?

I'm starting to think this post is a big troll.
 
No, they said they would only give me a summary of my records. The only way to get my records, in their words, is to "demand" it which they said they're legally required to say they can't recommend. It sounds messed up to me too...

Your post suggested that you might have explained why you wanted it. That combined with your unwillingness to take good advice and get off this thread suggests that you aren't doing yourself any favors.

You might have inadvertently identified yourself in your current class.
 
no, you asked if I had a copy of my records to which I explained the difficulty of the process and why I don't have it. You asked the questions, I answered them. I've taken the advice from everyone here, but there's no need to "get off" the thread when users ask questions and I have the opportunity to answer them.

I've Taken the advice of everyone here and talked to several lawyers and have taken their advice. Unfortunately there is nothing they can do. I don't know what else you want me to say?
