AWAC gets some Delta Flying

26 CRJs to be added to the fleet by October. Putting aside USAir for the moment, my guess is that they'll need to add 2 dispatch desks to their SOC, which means they'll need 7 or 8 new dispatchers.

Hey Capt. Phil...Interesting news. But you write "added to the fleet by October"...Hmm..are we almost into December?
So have they already added these a/c? I know you once worked there and have some inside track so I trust that you are clear on the details.

BTW, how's the SKW class going for you? Say hello to Joel for me!

Also, they'll need to add a Dispatch Coordinator's desk to the mix, and those positions come from the Dispatcher ranks. Probably 10 to 12 positions added between now and October 2015.

I heard the same thing. This is a blow to them and will absolutely destroy morale there, I feel for those guys.

Just heard further that the reason AWAC and Delta couldn't come to terms was that Delta was concerned that AWAC wouldn't be able crew the aircraft (Apparently they're having staffing/attrition issues.) Also heard that United is actually suing some of their regionals for similar reasons.

So let's sum up: The mainlines whipsaw the regionals to drive costs down. They have been so successful that regionals can't get and retain experienced pilots. The 1500 hour rule prevents hiring inexperienced pilots. And now mainlines are blaming the regionals and suing them. Really?!

I hope you're right because that's the only way the beatings will become less severe.

This is what is wrong with the industry and makes me sad. No more CEOs that have a passion for aviation and want to see it succeed on all levels. Now it's money hungry investors wanting top pay and a vacation home in bora borax as they get there on their 5million dollar vessel.

Sounds about right. There is just too many RJ operators out there at the moment, and that combined with the 1500 hour rule has right screwed the regionals. Add to that the deplorable pay, the chronic mistrust between management and the workgroups, the inherent conflict of interest that ALPA has in trying to represent both sides of the argument. It's just ugly on top of ugly, and it is going to get uglier. Mainlines are dangerously close to killing their golden egg laying geese.

Wow...bummer. I "WAS" on the short list.....oh well.....Maybe not so much now.
I almost put that snow blower on lay-away!

Thanks for the update guys! This is very useful intel. Sad but true. .....
