Would it be possible to get a head start by enrolling in Avit 102 the summer before your freshman fall semester?
Since high school is not over until June 15th , wouldn't be able to start untill 2nd summer session that starts end of June.
Doable?
Thanks for any response.

Yes it is doable as 102 course is a 9 week session.

Yes, it is doable.

Do most finish the course in 9 weeks? No, but bust your ass, and get er' done!
...Heck, I have countless friends who took over 1 full semester to finish their 102.:insane:

Welcome to JC!

The weather up here in Grand Forks is excellent in the summer, so if you try and fly everyday, you should not have an issue in completing the course.

The 102 course in question is actually a six-week session. You meet Monday through Friday for three hours per day. This is different from the nine-week course where you meet Monday through Thursday for two hours per day. Still, like others have said, it's definitely doable. If you take this route, then, depending on your major, you could do 102 in the summer, 221 (instrument flying) in the fall, 222 (instrument procedures) in the spring, 323/324 (Commercial) in the summer, then 325 (Multi-Engine) in the fall of your sophomore year.

If you'd like to enjoy your summer before shoving off to college (a good call, in my opinion), there is also another option. You can do 102 in the fall (instead of in the summer), 221 in the spring, 222 and 323/324 in the summer, then 325 in the fall of your sophomore year.

Doing 325 in the fall of your sophomore year is the fastest way to go through training, so, if this is your goal, the above are your options.

I have friends that took three semesters to finish 102. To say that they are lazy would be the understatement of the millennium.

Thanks for all the info. I'm doing this on behalf of my son.
He is planning on doing the summer camp next year.
Should be a great way for him to check out the campus and Grand Forks
as well as the flt. program at UND.
I'll just have to get him back there in Jan. so he can experience the cold and a hockey game.

I think he will want to spend his last summer at home. Start in fall and do the summer session between his fresh and soph year.
Thanks again for all the info.

You're welcome. :)

Yeah, I'd spend that summer at home, too. I did 102 last summer, 222 and 323/324 this summer (I didn't fly in the spring), and I can definitely use a year-long break to relax. He doesn't have to push himself this hard. It all depends on what his goals are. My goal is to get hired as a CFI as soon as possible, so that I can start building more time. If you have any more questions, you are welcome to send me a PM. Good luck to your son. :)
