Aviator Sunglasses? Why?

do you know where to find some cheap pair of aviator glasses? Just out of curiosity. A friend of mind wanted to know. Really!

A gas station, truck stop, walgreens, most convenience stores that have sunglasses usually have a couple pairs of aviators. They are cheap, but they work.

Mine make state troopers jealous.

Does anybody know if Serengeti sells replacement lenses for their sunglasses? Today I broke one of the lenses on my Apogee Drivers Gradient :banghead::banghead::banghead: I'm impressed with my level of stupidity...no limits here.

I had intra-lasik over 16 months ago, and I cant begin to tell you how important it is that you get a good pair of sunglasses. At this point, if i'm driving or outside and the sun is out, I have sunglasses on. Without it I find myself having to squint because everything is so damn bright.

I wear Arnette by the way. I have been wearing Arnette glasses since I was a teenager, and plan to continue wearing them as long as the company is in business. I think they are great.

PS- Aviator Sunglasses are really corny.

yes they do.... you have to send them in and if they're not still under warranty, pay a repair fee. it can take up to 2 weeks to get them back.

I really like my Maui Jim's. yea, they're expensive but they're great with glare and you can get them in prescription, unpolarized and easily get replacement lenses if needed. I've had my pair for over 3-4 years and no problems.

I would highly recommend anything oakley i have three pairs and all are great... Buy something that is polarized !!! Really does help out with glare. I have a pair of Oakley polarized titanium whisker 'Polished Black/Black Iridium' Thin frames work great with the headset and not any problems with G1000 or portable GPS's..

Don't use polarized lenses and expect to get anything done efficiently with a MD-88/90 DFGS!

Polarized lenses.....ugh.

Because of polarized lenses, it took me over a year to figure out that the Loran did in fact work and wasnt broken in the grumman I fly lmao.

When in doubt, take the sunglasses off and look with the naked eye hehe...The blank LCD may actually turn into a world of magic lmao

I've worn Oakleys forever and love them. Mine are half jackets with the standard black lenses. I like them because there's enough wrap around to cover my entire field of vision, they don't alter color at all (was that an amber beacon, or white?) and they're super lightweight and comfortable. The drawback is they would suck to wear under any large headset with big earcups, but then I wear them under my telex lightweight headset so I don't have that issue. You don't want polarized lenses in the EMB 145, the windshield is polarized and you'll find yourself looking through a contorted rainbow...

I'd love to wear my Dior glasses while training or flying a "Junglebus" at 350.

But, Dior and other couture designers don't make polorized designer glasses.

Plus, not sure if it'd look cool rockin' those while flying.

Maybe not cool, but definitely fashionable!!!

From the FAA Safety pamphlet "Sunglasses for Pilots: Beyond the Image"

POLARIZATION
.
Polarized lenses are not recommended
for use in the aviation environment. While useful for blocking
reflected light from horizontal surfaces such as water or
snow, polarization can reduce or eliminate the visibility of
instruments that incorporate anti-glare filters. Polarized lenses
may also interfere with visibility through an aircraft windscreen
by enhancing striations in laminated materials and mask the
sparkle of light that reflects off shiny surfaces such as another
aircraft’s wing or windscreen, which can reduce the time a pilot
has to react in a “see-and-avoid” traffic situation.

Check out vedalohd they are a high def lense mfg for pilots. Check out the website and then get back to me if you want a pair. I can get a 15% discount.
