Dude, I'm not putting any words in your mouth at all. What my point was, and still is, is that the public perception of people with facial piercing is that they have an anti-authority leaning. And, lo and behold, it proves true for you.
Like it or not, you can say that you like the piercings for style, fine. Generally speaking, the perception is that people with the attraction to that sense of style also typically have an anti-authority attitude. Just like people with a Goth style typically like that kind of music. It doesn't matter that you say you didn't get the piercing in order to defy authority. The point is that you had the piercing and you also espoused the suspected attitude.

Let me be really clear that I'm not attacking you or anyone else that has body piercings or art. I have no problem with it. I'm just pointing out that in the world, perception is reality. And fair or not, if you choose to have visible facial piercings or body art, don't be surprised or claim victimization when the world treats you a certain way.
I'm certain that you already get this, as you've already commented that you decided to remove yours for that very reason.

Heath, we both get it (it being the stereotypes that society holds against us) and neither of us are trying to sound victimized here (sorry if it came off that way, not how I meant it) - The point is though that the stereotype is something that needs to be changed because it is inaccurate. The problem which you have identified is that the stereotype is held by the "authority" if you will, and since we are trying to change it, it makes us "anti-authority" and self fulfills the stereotype. However, I can't really see a better way to change or challenge people's stereotypes than through personal interaction. I mean, when you think about the past when negative stereotypes were portrayed (we'll take for example, Jewish people in 1940's America) people would be bagging on Jews in one breath but then commenting how great and fair (etc) their neighborhood baker named David Rosenthal was in the next because he wasn't "one of those Jews" so to me, personal interaction is one of the best ways of debunking stereotypes.

I wasn't aware that the majority of our genral population at the time were Nazi's. my bad, guess I better head back to my liberal arts school and get my learn on some more.
