Aviation Quotes

"When flying, try to stay in the middle of the air. Edges of the air are marked by rocks, trees, and interstellar space...it is much harder to fly there."
Seen it a lot of places, no idea who said it first.

In the same vein, from a pilot explaining an "incident":
"I ran out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time."

The strength of the turbulence is directly proportional to the temperature of the coffee. ---- Gunter's second law of air travel.

"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci

I used that in my interview at Delta when asked why I wanted to fly for a living (I wasn't cheesy about it).

The HR Rep and Retired Captain stopped the interview and asked me to write it down for him.

I knew I was hired at that point.

on my first flight in the DA40, and it was a nice takeoff, i may add

Tim , my CFII "Mike, you are a • on the rudders!"

i never had lazy feet again hahaha

WHY I WANT TO BE A PILOT

When I grow up I want to be a pilot because it's a fun job and easy to do. That's why there are so many pilots flying around these days.

Pilots don't need much school. They just have to learn to read numbers so they can read their instruments.

I guess they should be able to read a road map, too.

Pilots should be brave to they won't get scared it it's foggy and they can't see, or if a wing or motor falls off.

Pilots have to have good eyes to see through the clouds, and they can't be afraid of thunder or lightning because they are much closer to them than we are.

The salary pilots make is another thing I like. They make more money than they know what to do with. This is because most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots don't because they know how easy it is.

I hope I don't get airsick because I get carsick and if I get airsick, I couldn't be a pilot and then I would have to go to work.

"Let me see if I've got this straight: in order to be grounded, I've got to be crazy and I must be crazy to keep flying. But if I ask to be grounded, that means I'm not crazy any more and I have to keep flying" from the movie Catch 22

Good ol' Yossarain! The book was freakin nutz.

Two of my all time favorites are from Alan Shepard:

"It's a very sobering feeling to be up in space and realize that one's safety factor was determined by the lowest bidder on a government contract."

And, the Shepard's Prayer, "Please, dear God, don't let me f*** up."

Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.

"There are old pilots and bold pilots. There are no old, bold pilots."

This is my absolute least enjoyed aviation quote for one simple reason...
"Oh you're a pilot, hey my dad knows a guy whos daughter dated the son of a pilot, you ever heard there are old pilots and bold pilots but no old bold pilots?" uh yeah I think I heard that one once! Oh yeah and I also don't like it because it just ain't true. Not only are there old bold pilots but there are old STUPID, INCAPABLE, SHOULD NOT HAVE A CERTIFICATE pilots who continue to be lucky.

My favorite quote is what I say after every landing, "Holy crap I did it again!"
