It’s not worth $75, but right after I got my private and had decided to get the rest of my ratings, I spent two months living in a van in NZ and found this gem in a bookstore in Hokitika on the South Island.

It was pretty wild—he started flying DH.89 Rapides in the UK until he crashed one and couldn’t get a flying job...so he moved to NZ and spent the next few decades flying mostly Rapides over the Southern Alps.

As you might expect there were some great stories in there; dry NZ wit describing crashes and days spent getting the piss beat out of you flying over the southern equivalent of the mountains of SE Alaska.
 
I reiterate the Electra Story. The tales of getting that thing back into service - the test flights trying to induce flutter by setting of shotgun shell type explosives near the nacelles while Tony LeVier dove at high speed is...interesting. Really a neat story.
