ATP VS. Sheble

Why not take the ATP ride as you do a 135 ride? thats how we do it and its free. I could do a lot of fun things with 2 K. Or if you dont do the 135 rides anymore, go rent a twin and fly a few hours with a safety pilot then find a DE.

I'm working 91 with the requirment to have an ATP prior to transitioning to part 135. I may be able to do the ATP in the aircraft I'm in now, but I get the feeling that's not quite an option. I'm turning to the community for different options.

I'm guessing you want to get your ATP done quick and get the best bang for the buck. I have a few recommendations...

If you can find a local flight school that has a Level IV simulator (Elite iGate, Precision Flight Controls, any advanced flight training device, etc.) a lot of the actual ATP checkride can be accomplished in the FTD, such as the approaches, even a few maneuvers. I don't have the PTS in front of me, the only thing I 'believe' you have to demonstrate in the actual airplane is the single-engine approach to land, circle, and a few other things. Using the FTD can save quite a bit of money.

If you are looking to do an ATP/Sheble type program, I would also recommend Accessible Aviation (http://www.accessibleaviation.com) in Columbus, MS. Similar program to ATP, but the housing and examiner fee is included for almost the same cost. Since you have experience in a PA34, that is what they use, but with a glass HSI.

One of them has several branches all over the country and costs way too much and the other has a shack in the middle of the desert, still costs too much, but a DPE with a cool mustache.

Really? $3.5k is to much to pay for an ATP certificate?

Ground @ $30 an hour for 10 hours =$300
Flight for 8.5 hours at $318 per our=$2695
Frasca FTD time =Free
Examiner costs =$500

Total costs =$3500

Not a bad deal if you want to go get your ATP certificate on your own if you as me. That seems to be a fair price for the airplane, and the ground considering it's only $30 an hour in my cost sample for and "advanced" certificate is cheap. Most places charge a preimum for "advanced" certificates/ratings. Granted, most people just roll it into a type rating, but if you don't have the option, it's not a bad deal. Heck, I know of one school that charges a fuel cur-charge school still, so a dutchess before you even put the instructor in the right seat is costing almost $300. You can find it for cheaper, I'm just saying. And most of ATP's Seminoles are in decent shape for a flight training bird. IIRC, I never flew one that had an INOP sticker in it.

I'm mostly talking about the entire program they offer, and having seen their planes at IWA, they appear to be in great condition. Lol I've flown a plane that when you started it up and turned the radios on, they were automaticaly tuned to the guard frequency....way more unerving than an Inop sticker.

I am currently doing a special for RJ First Officers, $2000 for the ATP, includes examiner's fees. Lodging is Space A but usually available. I'll extend it to you (or others) who are current 135 in a piston twin.

Dragging this thread up again. I'm going to need my ATP within the next few months. I would like a place to knock it out over a weekend and thats within a few hours flying of the four corners of the US. Thanks!!!
