The rumor is rampant on our company forums... but... then again... the rumor only sprang up after this announcement yesterday:

Today, ASA leaders shared with our Los Angeles-based team members, Delta's decision to partner with a different regional airline for service out of LAX beginning with the June 2007 schedule. There is no question that this decision is a difficult one to share considering the great job our crews in L.A. have done since opening our LAX domicile just over two months ago.

Although Delta’s new LAX-based partner will not be announced until early next week, it is sure to be a better fit than ASA for Delta’s expansion into Mexico and the west coast of the United States.

However... up until this time... I personally have not heard a thing about it, especially since the general consensus in the internal rumor mill said we'd be flying for Delta out of another base...

So how many pilots for ASA were based at LAX? Might ExpressJet be even larger than the ASA operation was at LAX?

Ha! Don't play coy Bob. Based on several media stories XJT is known to be placing 10 aircraft with a major. The only major it could be is Delta. So now you figure where these 10 aircraft are going. It could be SLC, but doubtful. SLC is saturated enough with 50 seaters and XJT can't replace SKW flying in the near future. It could be CVG since a lot of Comair flying is up in the air, but since 1) ASA is closing their LAX domicile and 2) XJT has infrastructure nearby in ONT, it makes more sense that your new domicile is going to be LAX.

Purdy much. My last roundtrip cancelled and I just barely got out of ORD on the last Northwest flight back home. I'm still trying to wind down. :)

I heard SLC, but same coast.

Another interesting rumor......the MEC chair got a call from management one night saying to come down, they want a contract now, and they're willing to give on a LOT. If that's true, it means a BIG deal is about to fall through if we don't have it signed. To add fuel to the fire, some of the sections that we've been stagnant are about to get TA'ed. Leaves of absence was TA'ed last week, and Hours of Service is agreed on. The wording is being worked out as I type this. Those two nuggest of info are straight from the negotiating committe and the MEC. So, that leaves us pretty much with Compensation and the scope stuff. They've already stated they'll be behind locked doors all next week as well. We've gotten more done towards the contract in the past week than in the three months prior, so that tells me management is in a hurry for some reason.

Then again, this could all be beacause they're afraid NWA is gonna pull 17 planes if we don't have an agreement by March 31st. Question is, where would NWA put them if they were pulled since Mesaba doesn't have anyone current on the CRJ anymore?

Thats a new one, I havent heard that. SLC like Kellwolf mentioned has been the rumor of late. I would hate to take ASA's base, but if pinnalce opened an LAX base, I'ld crap my pants. Not having to commute is my wet dream.

Also bob, the only XJT rumor i have heard about Delta flying was 10 planes in SLC. And for some reason I thought i read something official on it. I guess not.

I would hate us to take ASA's flying as well--nothing like kicking someone in the teeth when they're already down!

I dont know much about airline economics but to fly only 10 planes for someone else at another hub seems like it doesnt make financial sense.

i agree, but its a good start. better than slappin a new paint job on them and going for the branded flying idea.

Well we already got one hub like that--CLE. Plus this is the airline business its not supposed to make sense and certainly no one is supposed to make money!
