Latest standing bid looks horrible for me. Captain displaced to a FO, and a ton of people sr to me bidding up here. I'm still going to laugh when they realize the commute and our performance goes to crap even more due to commuter clause calls.

I don't even know how accurate those prelims are. Is the company really going to waive aircraft freezes?

While previous trip construction (Company's trip construction...just have to reinforce that so folks actually put the blame on the right people) were not really friendly for Commuters to Detroit, folks need to remember something very simple.

For example, and these are just example figures.

When you add an additional 2,000 hours of block flying into a 2,000 hour historical base, you're not looking at a total block hours of 4,000 hours. You're gaining access to additional trips (legs) that can be constructed together to improve pairing construction.

Instead of the old early duty-in and late duty-out constraints, you can then expect to see some later duty-ins and earlier duty-outs, hence aiding in improving commutability.

Just something to keep in mind.

It's been a while since I looked at it but I believe upgrade and base transfers break aircraft freezes.

They said all aircraft freezes are waived, but I am unable to bid IAD FO where I could hold a line for some reason. The company has the choice on what they will and will not do.

I understand that, but these flights to and from DTW are already packed and are tough to commute on anyways. Some people are going to be 2 legging it to get here, even from IAD. I live here in base, and would be an asset as a line holder to pick up non commutable portions of a trip, and no issues with me ever commuting in. I know 99% of the poeple coming to DTW will not move here.

What do you mean unable? You should be able to order your preferences at any time regardless of a freeze. Do you mean you aren't showing up in the prelim?

Nope, not showing up at all even though its in my standing bid list. I was told its companies discretion on whether they want to award you a position or not somewhere.

Dulles sucks, keep spreading that rumor! ;)

It does. lol. But it beats not having a line in DTW even though this is home for me. DTW sucks even worse, and we're NOT getting a bigger crew room either.

Whats your number in IAD? You can PM me it if you want.

I'm a little better than half way up the list.

I'd only be like 10 junior to you then there.

Come on over then! But please continue to tell everyone how much Dulles sucks.

It has it's issues, but once you accept the things you can't control it's actually a great place to work. We are the bastard step children of management and we like it that way. A good group of people, and it's a small base so you know everybody.

You want to start commuting to a line when you live in base?

Im probably going to go from line holder in DTW to edge of line/reserve after the last preliminary award, but I don't trust those preliminary awards anyway, mostly because of the person who does them. Either way, living in base beats commuting to a line. My time at home is more important.

I can't wait for all these ATL guys to come up and bitch about the horrible commute and cry a river about how bad the pairings are and how much they are spending on hotels. It's going to be fun for a while, until I tell them to shut the hell up and go back to where they came from :p

I'll trade places with them, and they can commute to Newark.

Ok. I was addressing the commutibility of DTW pairings, not flight loads.

All I can say is bid what you want, even if you don't think you'll get awarded it.

But it did close an hour ago.
