ASA/Comair for sale?

Even more interesting is since Skywest isn't bound to ALPA's merger/acquisition rules, is mrivc211 going to become a CR7 captain overnight if the sale goes thru?

What are ALPA's merger/aquisition rules and how would this fly with the pilots at Comair/ASA? I imagine they would continue to operate as feeder lines for Delta but just as independant company's ala Air Wisky and Skyest?

I'm sure, if Skywest actually buys them, that they'll serve in same capacity to the Delta system, but ALPA's rules about combining seniority lists do not apply because SKYW has an 'in house' union.

Kind of like how American "more or less" stapled TWA to bottom of their seniority list (AA is Allied Pilots Association, TWA was ALPA).

I see what you're saying. That could suck pretty bad for some Comair/ASA guys if that ends of happening. Espically if the time comes for furloughs. I know at least one TWA pilot that jumped ship to Delta before the merger and if he hadn't he would have lost his job by now because all the TWA guys got jacked with that merger.

Considering I work for an airline that is a mix of Western, Pan Am, Chicago & Southern, Northeast and probably another few, there's always someone pissed about something!

The Skywest chief said they had already identified 5% of operating savings if they purchased Comair/ASA. (Cue dun-dun! music from Jaws.)

It wasn't just TWA people who got jacked because of the merger.

I'm walking proof that they screwed their 'own' people too.

How does that work, Amber? I thought they just threw the TWA list on the bottom of the American one thereby protecting junior AA folks and screwing even senior TWA people.

Usually the only people happy after a merger is the #1 guy on the seniority list (the #2 guy is pissed because he thinks he should be #1), and the surviving management team.

I was in class with AA when the aquistion happened. As F/As, we are not employees (and do not have senority dates) until the day after graduation. The TWA purchase occured 10 APR 01, my senority date is 19 APR 01. The TWA F/As who were on TWA property prior to 10 APR 01 were given 10 APR 01 as their senority date. Therefore the TWA F/As are senior to me, even though I had been with AMR for over 5 years, AND was in class prior to the purchase.

Doug was right when he said there's always somebody pissed off. A merger/aquisition/purchase of one airline by another always screws somebody.

Mmmmrphhhh. Grggggggh.

Let's just say that there's more to this than meets the eye and that is about all I can say without getting in trouble.

PM the info to me then I'll post it like it's coming from me. Nobody will be the wizer.

Besides I was going to call Gerry anyway and ask him what was up.

I checked out our company website:

Some chick from corp headquarters "claims" that the phones are very busy this morning and "skywest execs" will be making a statement later today!

CRJ700 Capt? Haaaaaa! Hell would freeze over before they let me fly that thing as PIC. I guess I should get to my 1000 Turbine time ASAP so if opportunity comes I will be ready huh? Sheesh. I know a lot of people are pissed about this. And I'm not just talking about other airline dudes.

I have it on good authority that this is part of a secret takeover of Wendy's by Burger King!

I've got 1000 Turbine time I can let you have cheap. You pay shipping. Let me know.

I just listened to the webcast. He said they haven't even looked at this yet. I think it was just a reporter trying to make a story.

Hmm Delta liquidating an asset. Could that be a sign of things to come? I just heard about it this morning and the AJC (local paper) stated something like Delta has said there are looking at all aspects of cost cutting.....Hell just give us some help so that we can make the bags we are carrying now so that the bags deals will come down...There is no telling how much we pay to have bags sent to the owner because we couldnt get the plane off loaded and transferred to the correct flight.....With Operation Clockwork (disaster) the plane must go on time..no if, ands or buts about it.....some are pushing early and turning aways bags....There is a real cost that needs to be addressed.....But I am told management has it all worked out.....yeah right

I'm certainly not one to carry management's h20, but if you look at the acquisition costs compared to the costs of "care and feeding" of DCI, plus considering the successful spinoffs of ExpressJet and Pinnacle (Mesaba?) the wholly-owned DCI thingy doesn't make a whole lot of financial sense.

In terms of Operation Clockwork, my frustration level has gone down at least 80% I'm not sure how things have changed under the wing, but I think one would be hard-pressed to find a pilot whose job didn't actually get a little easier. Our job didn't really change at all, except people are ready-to-roll when pushback time comes rather than having to call special assist to find out the dealio and asking what time the 0630 Philly leaves when it's 0638.

It made sense when it enhanced stockholder value The $1.9 billion write-down kind of put that to rest. There is only one thing that preserves any stock holder value now, staying out of bankruptcy by staying alive until some other legacies fold and some hubs get shut down. That is done by generating short term cash. DCI is probably the only unencumbered asset that's worth anything and Skywest is one of the few entities witht the financial muscle to buy it. Mesa might be the other one.
