Army WO packet, advice

Well, that proves the point. Army Aviators aren't special but passing ranger school is. That's the Army mindset. If you're an Army aviator, just get use to your role as a soldier. Unless you want to cross over to the Blue and take your flying talents with you.

:yeahthat:

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I stopped whining years ago. Have no reason to anymore since I've long since stopped listening to RLO's and now do what ever I want:nana2:

It's much easier to do what you want and let them think they're in charge while you're out flying missions, isn't it? :laff:

Awww... how predictably cute you guys are.

(But seriously - just messing with you guys.)

I've discovered you have to already be in the guard to apply for the rotor wing warrant officer positions, you can't enlist into it...

Same ordeal I experienced. Contacted several units and the ones who didn't try to get me to enlist, tried to get me to commission into some other branch and apply from within.

Carefully consider your options before you sign on that line. Seven or eight years of your twenties is a long time that you'll never get back. On AD, you'll likely spend every other year deployed to some God forsaken hole. If you'd like more info, please PM me and I'll talk your ear off.

I appreciate not sugar-coating the info.

So AD deploys much more than Army Guard/Reserve? Is this only for aviation? I thought other branches within the Army Guard/Reserve were pretty much on par with AD in deployments due to their support roles?

My only Army experience is as an aviator so I can't help you with much about the deployment cycles of other types of units. The deployment schedule is based upon many factors. With the current OPTEMPO, expect to deploy quite a bit more frequently with an AD unit than with a comparable ARNG/USAR unit. I'd say that the deployment ratio AD:NG/RES is in the neighborhood of 3:1. That's about all I'll say due to OPSEC. I'm sure you'll be able to find some statistics on an Army forum out there.

Now that the USN has gone to WO aviators, I'm surprised that he USA hasn't tried to one-up them by restoring the days of non-commissioned aviators...

Hey.... What's wrong with that?? The Brits have been and continue using NCO pilots. :bandit:

I am in the California National Guard, just completed the State Aviation board, passed.

I am going to a Federal Recognition board this November.

Any advice?

Thanks

TS,

I'm going to break this down for you from previous experience on AD. The truth of the matter is about 1 or 2 years ago the Army was hurting really bad for pilots and to be completely straightforward they want experience. Fixed wing, rotary, space shuttle really doesn't matter. If you haven't already been accepted apply it will be a long process as from what I hear Civilian to Flight school is a somewhat difficult process as the most recruiters are very lazy about walking you through the packet because well most people either change their mind, or eventually don't get selected and they see it as a waste of time.

If you need any help or guidance if your still going through the process PM me and I will put you in contact with the right people. The battalion commander for the flight training companies is my former commander and friend. ** You will need good recommendations depending where you are in the process you have to sit with a board of Aviation commissioned officers. Anymore information please feel free and contact me.
