Arizona, Florida of the West...

I was a Pile Driver and worked on the water mostly. Spent a lot of time on the Mr. Guy, pictured (much bigger than it looks). It was hard, dirty, loud and dangerous.

Before my time but the Mr. Guy was purchased to build this bridge. Anyone want to guess?

Correct! Didn't think anyone would know.

Always wondered how they build bridges over water. Because how to the support structures (cement) dry in water. Also how do they/can they build the support structures in water. Especially deep water.

A friend and I had a discussion about this over cocktails yesterday. We’re both on the financial “downstroke” so we could technically retire in the next couple years and have a fantastic time, but… healthcare. Man, if I could keep my healthcare plan for a reasonable amount or had access to a better system, KTHXBAIIIII! :)
Have to plan for healthcare. You'll have a big advantage when/if you decide/are forced to retire. I keep telling my niece and nephew to at least look forward a bit and not think today is their entire reality. I suspect it mostly falls on deaf ears, they don't have the advantage of a very conservative Scottish grandmother. I try to help when I can but I suspect they won't realize what I'm trying to tell them is true until they really need it and it'll be too late.

First off: Concrete comes in a truck, cement comes in a bag.

Concrete doesn't dry it sets, it's a chemical reaction. When placing concrete under water don't let it tumble through the water because that will wash the cement out of the concrete.

When I meet a professional pilot, it is very easy to discern if they've ever had a job outside being a pilot. Waiter, blue collar trades, sales, anything - anything Mike Rowe ever did on Discovery Channel... Not all, but many of the only-ever-been-a-pilot types I've met will bitch about a 20 minute EDCT as if there were asked to dig a 300ft long trench for sprinklers.

Like you said flying for a living is hard in some aspects, time away from home, etc.. However, I've never met a pilot that has calluses or bad knees from being a pilot.
My L3 and 4 are literally destroyed from sitting for 20k hours. There’s no fluid left between my discs. I think what really did it for me was lifting bags into the Phenom 100. Head has to crouch down while lifting a bag

I feel ya. I had laminectomy surgery on L-3 and L-4 last year due to severe spinal stenosis. Doctor couldn't touch L-5..........stenosis was too close to the spinal cord. Yipee.
