Applying to the "career destination" airlines

Let go of the numbers.

A 12000 hour CRJ captain should have some LCA, chief pilot or some other leadership on his resume. Don't shoot the messenger.

Honestly I have no idea how to meet these people. I don't fly at a regional with Delta flying. I rarely end up at Delta airports. According to my Delta internal the CPs no longer do meetings with applicants (he tried to set one up for me). Networking is clearly not my forte and I am ignored as a result. Networking ability does not translate to customer service skills or an ability to get along with your co-workers.

My internal isn't management but has been involved directly with hiring in the past. I even worked for the guy at his own business so it isn't a cheap jumpseat internal. He filled out both recommendations (airlineapps and internal) for me. He has talked to his buddies on the hiring board and doesn't understand why I haven't gotten a call.

This is the stuff that gets agrivating.

Challenge accepted...

The only thing accomplished with that is now I want Tacos. But, that would require moving my ATP guide out of my way, getting in the car and driving to a mediocre taco place that used to feature a Chihuahua in its commercials. :ooh:

With the electronic applications, what is the best way to list the other jobs you've had with one company?

Right now, I've got my current position and then in the duties description I have the other positions listed.

Would it be better to separate those out on their own in the job history section? Or would that look like I've jumped around to different companies every 6 months to someone that just glances at my application? It's my understanding that looking like you don't stay somewhere for very long can be detrimental, and I don't want appear that I've done so.

I'm curious about this as well.

Honestly I have no idea how to meet these people.

I can only assume "these people" are base chiefs and the like? Not to kick a dead gift horse in the mouth, but they appear at career fairs. That's how regular joes get to meet these people. I made a really solid contact at Alaska and now keep in touch regularly with a pretty high up person by chatting with the same guy at a couple different job fairs. Hasn't borne fruit yet, but I'm reasonably sure it will pay off in the future.

Also, before anyone else can get to it;

Try having him ask one or two of his closest hiring "board buddies" if its ok for him to give you their number.

YOU can call them if they agreed with your buddy to speak with you.

You'll be waiting for eons if you think they're gonna call you first.

Even if your daddy's buddy was a Delta hiring Capt. The idea is to get their number and you call them.

Networking is like chasing tails, you do like tails don't you?

Heh. I am terrible at the chasing tails thing as well.

Other than some generic questions I wouldn't even know what to say if I could get their number or even what to do after. I don't play that game very well at all. If you only heard the questions I have asked at interviews and career fairs you would cringe. I didn't get hired at those interviews and no interview invites arrived from the fairs.

I have taken peoples advice on here on how to network and can't even get simple internal recs. Guess I finally have an answer for "what's your worst attribute". Sadly I can't spin that in a positive light.

On the jumpseat: do you talk about anything else other than the FA?

Like maybe you like to wear spandex and plastic Helmets. Aka biking... Boom contact.

Maybe you like RC planes. Boom contact.

Some of youse guys. Use your imagination. Ask for an email address to stay in contact.

Or continue to complain and do nothing.

It would seem the key is follow up. ASAP. Do you use LinkedIn, or if they offer to look at your application/resume do you send that right away? How long would that person remember you? When is it considered pestering? Would it make more sense to join organizations and build connections that way? Go to airline events?

Dove tailing on what some others have said.

I have 8+ year FOs sitting next to me who have been raising the landing gear for DAL for the entire time, showing loyalty by not ditching their current airline. Due to bad luck they are still FOs, but I will be honest. SouthJet would be better off hiring them over me.
Meanwhile I've jumpseated on regionals which will remain nameless where the fast upgrade captains have class dates. Watching these "kids" operate I was horrified at the thought of paying pax being in the back, yet these pilots got the call before my FOs as they had the PIC turbine time. They were clueless, but hey. They checked he box.

I flew with a lot of those captains at a regional and know quite a few more....they deserve every bit of a call.....cool story though

If I could be king for a day I would get these FOs jobs ahead of me. Every one of hem are class acts, great FOs and would be great captains if not for their bad luck and loyalty. The legacies have no idea what they are missing out on.

Few people seem to exist with the amazing character you have. It is quite selfless and shows how much integrity you have. I am sure they have learned from the example you have shown them.

Somehow I think they will be just fine...it doesn't seem like it but there is certainly a method behind their madness and they know exactly what they are looking for. It's not like they just started hiring people yesterday.

Trust me, regardless of how great you feel the guy next to you is, you have no idea what his application looks like.

That is all I have to add to this: make sure your app is as flawless as possible.

I looked at one guy's app which looked absolutely awesome to me... Except he hadn't updated his medical or passport in 2 years. Both were out of date.

You just don't know.

Soooo, going to make me break out the top drawer stuff....

Fine.

Watch either of these, and let me know if they stick in your head....

Mission accomplished. Well played. :bounce: Always a fan of Laff-A-Lympics. When getting up at a ridiculously early hour on the weekend was acceptable all for a cartoon. Now, not so much. :fury:
