I struggled with the issue of leaving my last job early for the airlines, but I was told the same thing. "Seniority is everything." This is about as true as it gets. I got awarded a domicile I wanted right out of training and before transfers got stagnant hopefully only for the next few months, but still it made all the difference in me spending more time at home rather than commuting. Furthermore, I already have over 350 people below me on the seniority list, and I was hired 5 months ago. Literally every month counts, and when the music stops (Which I don't see happening for the foreseeable future, but you never know), where do you want to be in your career?

Jesus, I guess I should look at the list again. I guess we've hired more than a third of the airline since I got on.

The thing to do is to figure out those things that are most important to you. Maybe make a decision matrix.
Unfortunately what I often see on this board and others is people giving advice based upon their own priorities in life. That is great if your priorities align with theirs, not so great if they are different.

I actually was thinking after reading your responses this AM, "I need to write this out."

Which is precisely why I started this post. 10 days ago I was waiting until August, period. Then someone whose opinion I value greatly said I was crazy to do so. Then I started thinking. And you guys have echoed what he said, which has made my mind up.

I really thank you all for your input and for humoring my questions about all this. Just as my clients have (usually) never been married before and don't know how a wedding day timeline should be laid out, I've never even begun to go through the hiring process for a job like this so have been trying to go into it with eyes as open as much as a first timer can have. Right now I'm balancing being home based with an airline presently having issues with commuting to an airline that has been historically very stable and also another that has had very good movement lately and has a commute that is even drivable (3.5 hours). Im trying to balance and weigh QOL with commuting/home base with pay. I'm researching all I can between flying and getting my instrument work on point again, and I'll be honest, it can be hard to get good research outside of actually talking to local folks due to, well, I'm sure you guys read the "other forum". I appreciate all this input so much as I get all this figured out...but it is going to be game on for me now because yes, I want to go fly.

You can never really be 100% sure you've made the right choice until you turn 65 and look back. All you can do is make the best-informed decision and hope for the best.
As I wrote earlier, my #1 choice regional went out of business. So did my #3. Fortunately my #2 called before #3. That's how it works.
Of course, maybe if my #3 called first I would have been more motivated to move on and I'd be at a legacy. But then again, maybe I'd be selling used cars.
