APFA vs ALPA How they Handle an Incident

I have been sitting on this for a few days. There was a crew that had something happen that was not good. (They have asked me not to say a lot) I know the pilots and FAs and both called me asking for help. They aren't big into the union and really have never messed up before so they didn't know who to call and what reports to fill out. I started calling APFA and ALPA people on their behalf. The APFA people had no idea I knew the pilots and the ALPA people had no idea I knew the FAs. What I heard from the APFA people was concern for the whole crew, they wanted to help the FAs fill out the reports to protect the pilots and wanted to talk to them about how to talk to the company so the pilots would be covered. The ALPA guys I talked to flat out told me the easiest way to protect the pilots is to throw the FAs under the bus, and they wanted to help the pilots word the reports in a way to do that. I even asked, "Without ALPA cover the FAs are going to lose their jobs but if the whole crew stands together everyone should be fine?" He said it is about the blame game and putting it on the FAs is the easiest.

This seems messed up to me, but am I letting the fact I know the FAs my judgment? I know the APFA is weak and tying the FAs to the pilots is good for them. I also know ALPA knows that and spending money to keep FAs employed is not their job.

ATN_Pilot amorris311 Seggy what say you?

This thread is seriously messed up. ALPA is trying to get you to do something shady and you have to think about it? Come on bud, you're better then that.

Do the right thing.

In a crew aircraft, you succeed as a crew, and you fail as a crew. Whether cabin crew or flight crew; both are necessary or that plane isn't going anywhere on a revenue flight.

Aren't the Beagle Dollies AFA, not APFA?

This.

APFA is the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, they represent the American Airlines flight attendants, and ONLY the American Airlines flight attendants. They're an in-house, AA union.

AFA is the Association of Flight Attendants, they're a national union that represents the flight attendants of American Eagle, as well as the F/As of United and many other carriers.

Which union are you talking about Gonzo ? There is a HUGE difference between the two.

When I was a union rep (granted for a very short time) I would never have done anything to throw a pilot under the bus. I was good friends with a lot of the Eagle ALPA guys at the time, and the guys I knew wouldn't have thrown me under a bus either (or at least I like to think they wouldn't have).

You're posting in a topic you know nothing about, so I figured I should do the same.

And the buck stops at the left seat.

Yeah I do, ALPA's acting shady, and the fanboys won't admit it.

Having never been a member of ALPA, your authority, or expertise, on the matter, has no bearing. Yes, we members have many issues with "the beast", and we air those issues in public, right or wrong. However, having no experience with an organization invalidates your criticism of it.

I've been a member of FA Union. This is pretty cut and dry.

AFA is trying to be civil and not hose anyone.

ALPA is trying to throw other professionals under the bus.

SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHADDDDDDDDDDy

edit: in hindsight it may not of been AFA, can't remember, but it was a FA Union.
