AOPA will never get another dime from me

AOPA = $30 Dollars a Year to Try and Help Protect GA
ALPA or any Union = X% of your Paycheck every month to protect your job

Now without going into a flame-fest and taking this way off topic I am going to state an opinion take it or leave it. I differ with the norm on Pilot Union's but regardless if you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars a year to a union to protect your job isn't it worth the 30 dollars a year to try and protect the roots (GA).

It's a no-brainer to me especially with their legal service.

When you ask for flame free posts youre going to get the exact opposite.

I made a similar post and the response was-AOPA legal services suck. Union dues are tax deductible (so is AOPA). ALPA is God. You are not. ALPA will come to your house and give you full service, AOPA won't. AOPA is for the rich, ALPA is against the rich, afterall its a class war-proletariat v. bourgeois.

They're different. Besides, people disagree with me all day and that's hunky dory.

I'm a proud card-carrying member of both AOPA and ALPA.

ALPA for career insurance.

AOPA to protect GA.

Love all the Velo hate speak. Who is talking about user fees? You GA types are.

I'm not suggesting user fees to limit GA, though I AM in favor of them.

Perhaps just restricting GA from Class B airspace and airports served by airlines would do the same thing. The LGB midair is an outstanding example of why GA should be kept away from airline approach corridors.

You all remember San Diego and Cerritos don't you?

I'm a 100 hour vfr guy who's flown into Hartsfield in a C172 3 times with no problems. That's a little bit of a blanket generalization, don't you think? I'm no Bob Hoover...but if you do your research and follow procedures...regardless of how low time you are, you should be able to operate safely and cause no problems whatsoever in very busy airspace. Are there idiots who get in over their heads or put themselves in bad positions? Sure, people do dumb things in every walk of life.

I dunno, maybe i'll feel differently if i ever get to where you are but right now, i feel slighted by that suggestion.

Not if you don't believe in their agenda. Don't be deceived. They're not defending GA. They're defending the ability of rich guys operating bizjets without paying user fees.

Most GA guys are perfectly happy to fly VFR out of the Felts Fields of the world. Those guys would NOT be paying user fees.

And WHY did you need to go to ATL? Just to say you did it? I don't care how much you want to fly to ATL. Just be prepared to pony up a user fee if you feel the ego urge to mix it up with the big boys.

Hey, don't take it personally. But you have NO BUSINESS operating at ATL with your level of proficiency. Fly your VFR trips to grass strips and you'll never pay a user fee.

Last I checked, a public use airport was open to everyone. ATL takes copious amounts of federal funding, so its open to everyone. Shouldn't matter what the reason is. If he felt that he wanted to go to ATL, then he went to ATL.

So, if you don't want us (the little guys) in ATL and the like, how bout you keep your nice little Part 121 operations out of airports that are in the middle of nowhere? You sound a lot like a 6 year old who wants the whole sandbox to himself.

Not if you don't believe in their agenda.

And quite honestly that's what it comes down to, really.

Don't support organizations you don't believe in. Fully support the ones you do!

Read, learn, find out everything there is to find out about whatever it is you are thinking about supporting/not supporting and make your decision.

All I hear when you open your mouth is I got mine so I don't care what happens to GA because it doesn't effect me anymore. As for GA not flying in busy class B that is the most absurd motion I have ever heard. I fly VFR inside and out of the SFRA and FRZ in busy class B airspace professionally without issue but I can't go two seconds on guard without one of the "Professional's thinking he is on OPS" I don't have a problem in that airspace, what is your problem?

Paying for radar services is just going to lead to unsafe VFR practice which will in turn lead to accidents. Absolutely absurd and sickening.

Is this while your student is flying and your watching or while your serving diet coke and peanuts? I'm confused on that when YOU "fly" part?

Now how to regulate the 'amateurs' out of the air is the tricky part. User fees won't fix stupid. I'm sure we both would love to share the sky with safe, competent, 'professionals', and not have to deal with 'amateurs' that do stupid crap. Thing is, people here on the forums are here for education, and sharing knowledge. The ones here and that go to NJC roundtables and talk about how to fly 'professionally' although not being compensated, aren't the ones being stupid in airplanes. 99% of the instructors and FLAPs as you call them here on JC fall into the 'professional' group, that I'm sure are just as safe to share the skies with as a fellow 121 crew.

Hmmmm.......I wondered who would fall into that post. I know now

Ahh I was waiting for sky god to post...maybe it is when I am doing photo flights VFR inside the FRZ.
