I don't mean to belittle anyone for riding along in the right seat of a single pilot airplane. I think it's great to see how things are done, and it's always useful to have an extra set of hands (and eyes). However, I take issue with the supposition that the PIC is in desperate need of "help" or "input", but is too ragingly egomanical to ask for it. I'd imagine that when you were PIC you wouldn't much have cared for someone with that attitude in the other seat, either.
And yes, the primary issue here is someone paying a bunch of dough to "skip a step" and pad the ole logbook with "multi-turbine time" that isn't worth a plugged nickel (IMHO).
Well there is the fact that I have nearly 600 hrs of time I can't log. It's seriously holding me back now. I was pulling in 35 to 40k a year and couldnt find another job that paid as well.
I've never encountered the desperately needed input theory before. I was required by insurance that is all. For someone to suppose that the PIC isn't up to it and needs someone who isn't even qualified to be there. Well that's just silly. Silly I tell ya!
I learned a lot including don't touch anything until your cool with Mr Captain. Mostly I learned about the 90% of charter that ISN'T flying.
The problem that was touched on but was not talked about much was the lack of training, lack of standards and the lack of CRM concepts for the right seat dude. This could be worse than single pilot.
