Anyone use ifly gps?

trying my best not to use foreflight like everyone else - I'm interested in their 740 tablet as it's supposedly easier to see in sunlight than a iPad.
 
I have two friends who use an Ifly in their RV's. I'm looking hard at a factory refurb for my experimental. They seem pretty decent.

I have an iFly 740 and think it is the best portable GPS on the market. Extremely user friendly. Makes flight planning a piece of cake. Totally readable in bright sunlight in my RV-8. I believe it has the largest screen of all the portables. Support is second to none.

I've only used foreflight once, still trying to figure out what exactly it is and isn't. . I'm in the investigating stage of all the products.

Looks bright! So the only wire is to plug it in for power?

Okay it's bright but that's literally its only selling point. I've never had trouble reading an ipad in GA or airline flying, it's easier to read than the actual instruments in the CRJ. Just turn it away from the sun. I don't think yall realize how great foreflight is, just look at a list of features. The newest version is basically like having your own airline dispatcher do all your flight planning for you.

I just used foreflight from mckinney Texas to stephenville Texas and enjoyed it very much. I plan on trying to use most of the big programs before I buy. A captain with a bonanza wants me to come try his AOPA version.

I'd have to buy an iPad so regardless it's going to cost me money either in an iPad or the ifly tablet. It definitely was easier to see today on an iPad mini when I took my sunglasses off. It ate up a lot of battery as well. So whatever I get I assume it will be plugged in most of the time.

What features does foreflight have that the others don't?

Just put it on your work iPad. I use mine all the time for personal use.
 
I used to have (actually still do) the 720. Was pretty good for a portable gps, although lack of internal battery sucked. The touchscreen had to be recalibrated every so often, loading charts and wx/tfrs was done with a usb flash drive, and app plates were difficult to orient to a useable position. In short, if you have to spend money on the device, just get an iPad and use Foreflight. The iPad is obviously more productive when not used in flight anyway. Foreflight all the way.

Disclaimer; I think the 740 is supposed to be much better and solve some of those issues I mentioned. Good company, good support, good product, get Foreflight ;)

Yep, and has a built in antenna. Added a Ping Buddy ADS-B IN for $135 connected by USB port. Can be hard wired, external battery or cigarette socket powered.
