Just wondering if anyone here know if FSA is hiring right now? I am CFI, CFII, MEI and have about 400 hours with two PPL written and checkride passed. Two instrument written passed and one commercial written and checkride passed. I know it is not much but it has been real slow in oklahoma!

Thanks in advance!!

Hiring freeze if i remember correctly.

That is absolutely correct. I heard it myself last week from an employee at the highest decision making level. There is currently a pool of CFI's (myself included), who successfully interviewed for a spot in the "next" standardization class that was supposed to start last November. We all know what has happened to the economy and hiring since November, so that class has vaporized. Even this person I spoke with can't say when the next "new hire" CFI standardization class will begin.

Some of those CFI's have moved on to other jobs with no intention of going to FS if the call ever comes. Others are holding out. So, it certainly won't hurt to send Connie your resume. Who knows, they may call you in for an interview. They called me. Just don't get your hopes up about starting anytime soon.

As for your number of students passed, I wouldn't worry about it- you're successfully getting people through, and that's what matters. The pass rate issue never came up during my interview, or for anyone else that has posted about theirs.

Finally, be very leery of any posts here proclaiming that a CFI hiring frenzy is just around the corner, or about "imminent" start dates for standardization classes. It's all well intended, but not always accurate. A lot of CFI's made major life/career changes based on these unsubstantiated posts with very unfortunate outcomes.

Flight Safety is very tight lipped about what is going on, or is about to happen with their business. More so about hiring. This leads to all kinds of wild speculation and interpretation among the "new hires" which is never good.

So, in summary, as Crockrocket says, apply with confidence. Just don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Good luck, and post if anything develops.

They obtained some other contracts that filled the void with less headaches.

But SBP you might get some of my old students if you ever get involved with the PTC. :P

Good point. I would recommend getting into one of these contracts....job security right now. I know that the instructors that were hired for the PTN contract are (possibly) going to drift over to the Swiss side every once in a while to help out because they are JAA qualified. Helps Swiss and helps the instructors keep busy. :nana2::panic:

So what happens to the Business Jet Direct track students where part of the program is instructing at FSA for 800 hours? Are they waiting around in a pool too?

That program has pretty much gone by the wayside. It was created post 9/11 to keep poolies occupied while they waited almost 2 years for an instructor position. I suppose you can do BJD now, but I wouldn't expect to get a job out of it unless you have ATP mins or are very lucky.

Alot of companies hire with around 1200 tt, basically 135 mins.

Ive copiloted for a few companies that picked people up from the centers with around 1100tt.

Blech...Well, no plan survives first contact with the enemy. It was my understanding from the FSA literature and website that it was part of the program where you go down there, get some ratings, then be an instructor pilot, then go out to one of the centers. If that's just plain not the case, looks like my gameplan's going to change. But then, that gameplan was looking a couple to few years down the road when I'm ready to go after my CFII and MEI.

Disappointing to hear, but glad to know that I need to find another way to do it than competing for an instructor pilot slot.

I am part of the BJD program. I am currently an SIC at Toledo. It works. There are a few people I know that have done it.

Most corporate departments require an ATP for insurance. If you do BJD, try to get in a plane that requires 2 pilots, like Crock. That will better your odds of getting a job.

I second that (Fo-Sho!!). That's the route that I plan on taking.....someday :rawk: Cannot complain where I'm at now though :nana2:
