Anyone interview with Silver?

I have an interview with Silver coming up this next week. When I received the call and scheduled the interview, it seemed very straight forward but if anyone has any tips, suggestions, or an overview on what to expect it would be most appreciated.

Bascially it is three parts: face-to-face, exam, and sim.

The face-to-face portion is fairly straight forward. Mainly a document review and some basic questions. I thought of it more as a get to know you sessions with a few simple knowledge questions thrown in.

The sim is, again... fairly straight forward. The sim is a non-motion sort of combo 1900C/D set up. Nothing here that an instrument rated pilot shouldn't know already.

The gotcha (and I'm being deadly serious here) is the 50 question written. Know your stuff... from basic stuff through ATP. I'm talking AGL vs MSL, magnetic vs true, that kind of stuff is on there. From what I am hearing, the majority of applicants are not making past the written exam. The test is not necessarily hard, but read the questions and answers carefully. I will repeat... read everything carefully!

Beyond that... look like a professional, dress like a professional, and above all... act like a professional.

Good luck!

What were your times when you applied? Curious to see who is getting called up.

BTW, I interviewed with Silver a few days ago. 2-on1 was so easy, and it was really relaxed, laid back, and both dudes were totally cool. #3 and 318 on the seniority list. List goes back to the Chaulk's turbo Mallard days, btw. (Do research if you don't know what i'm referring to) ... Written is pvt, ira, and Part 121 stuff. I'll post more specifics later. Sim was takeoff, climb to 2000ft, fly runway heading for a few miles, asked where are you from the XYZ vor, then asked to turn around and fly direct to the vor, given a holding instruction and how would you enter, with an ILS approach to mins and landing. That's literally it...

I gather if you made it to the sim, you passed the written?
That is indeed how it works, yes sir. 2-on-1, then once you walk out of the interview room there are 2 computers, you sit down immediately at one of those, do the written (no time limit), then let one of the recruiters know, they'll verify your score, wait in the "holding tank". Then, you go into the sim, do your thing, and they will call ya' later. Oh, and they give you the PRIA paperwork to fill out after the sim which you can fax it back, do it right there, or bring it back later. They prefer you just do it there and ask questions instead of guessing, obviously..

Ctab is a Captain there, IIRC.

I am.

KHanson - just wanted to offer my congrats on doing something most applicants aren't... making to the sim portion.

I was in the training center last week for a couple of hours and saw at least two leave after the written. I had talked to them while they were waiting and they both seemed to be well experienced and might have been a good fit at Silver.

Did they tell you aircraft and possible location?

Anyone know when there is a class date scheduled?
End of April for the B1900 from what I was told. It is based off seniority, and because I'll probably be one of the younger ones in class (27 y/o) I'll probably get a B1900... But, there are FO's on the Saab bidding captain on the Beech because some FO's on the beech aren't looking at a captain upgrade anytime soon, and are jumping ship... at least that again is what I was told by another pilot at Silver... That was the readers digest version btw...

So... TO THOSE WHO DIDN'T PASS THE WRITTEN, OR DID: I just got a call from HR, and they were asking me my honest opinion on the written test, so I told them what I felt. They are inviting people back who got a high 70% that failed by a question or 2 to retake the test, do the sim, and go from there.

The test HAS in fact been worded to more easily understand what's going on in the question. I'll be interested to hear how the new test is for those that take it...

Excellent news!

Great to hear! I passed the test and got the call just yesterday.

It is good news that they reworded the test though. I read through those questions several times over and will admit that more than once I made an educated guess after thinking them over thoroughly.
