Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Year?

Re: Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Ye

Deferring you OKC date will also defer you seniority date. This will defer you retirement eligibility, and potentially be the difference between you getting your desired days off, vacation, etc in some later years. I would think twice about pushing my date back, I have seen many instances in my career where one class date has made a huge difference in what someone got (time off, days off etc,). Rememeber, SENIORITY IS EVERYTHING.

Re: Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Ye

I am from the High Desert in Southern California, near VCV (Southern California Logistics Base), and from what I hear from my family, Oklahoma in not to much worst than then winters that we get here, other than the ice/snow. On that topic, if I am there between Oct-Apr, should I invest in snow chains and if I am to drive out there, would you recommend to me to take I-40 straight into OKC or wrap around using I-10?

As far as holding out for an academy date, since the car sales industry has hit a very hard period I am good to go when ever the FAA wants me.

I wouldn't bother with chains dude. Get some decent all season tires and I think you'll be Ok.

Re: Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Ye

I highly recommend the Oklahoma / Texas package be added to your vehicle.

Heck, I already drive a Buick! Some horns look mighty fine if I do be a saying so myself. But honestly, just a good set of all season tires and that's it. I think I can do that, having driven on all those lovely mountain roads out here.

I've never been to OKC but I can confidently say, snow chains would make you feel really silly. I'm from much further north and I've never even bought a "winter" tire before much less snow chains. You'll be fine.

Plus, from my experience living in Enid, OK for 2 years, it doesn't matter what your car is outfitted with (legally of course) every car/truck sucks on ice. And ice is the biggest winter problem in OK, not the snow.

I just add big salt shakers in from of my tires... works like a champ. ;)

Well, except for studs. Seems overkill to me though.

So basically use common sense. Slow down, don't follow to close, give extra room to stop, no sharp turns and most of all, watch out for the other Californian drivers. Gotcha!

find yourself a nice open parking lot and go feel it out with no cars around at night, it's not a big deal.

hey you guys with SUV's I used to run recaps on my beater jeep with that green diamond compound in them, worked AWESOME on slick stuff.

Re: Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Ye

Thanks for that advice, but I am one of the few Southern Californians that have a lot of iced road driving experience, I live in the foothill of the mountains right under some of the nicer ski resorts so I am very use to windy roads that are covered in nothing but a thin layer of gravel and ice.

Re: Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Ye

So anyone holding out?

I'd like to hold out till late Nov or December (then I can burn my current vacation into January and get next year's vacation; I'm even thinking of transferring with my current job to OKC so I can work on weekends).

Re: Anyone else holding out for academy date past the New Ye

Snow and ice are nothing new here. Do it every year from October - March/April/May and sometimes June. One thing does help with ice - vehicle stablization system...they are the BEST! I will never buy another car without one.
