Property of Scheduling
Well seeing the mins of 600/100 makes ASA very attractive. Anybody know much about them? I know they fly the ATR's, and CRJ's.... At this point I am really thinking about throwing my resume in.

I can't say that I know a whole lot about them, but I know one of my former flight instructors recently left to work for them. Unfortunately I don't know what his hours were when he got hired.

I sent mine in with 780/180 and they called me about a week later (a couple days ago), and they're sending me an application packet. They said once I send it in and everything is copasetic that they'll call me for an interview....Soooo we'll see :)

I worked at ASA for 7 years...

The good:
-Nice equipment
-Now owned by Skywest (better than being owned by Delta- no offense Doug)
-Mostly young pilot group (fun overnights)
-High attrition so upgrade might be relatively short
-Good training dept.

The bad:
-Schedules are tough...long duty days and 5-7 legs per day
-Crew Scheduling is a b!tch!!!
-Reserve absolutely sucks
-Commuting is tough...most lines are not commutable
-Over 3 years into negotiations with little progress...might get ugly soon
-Constant contract violations by mgmt.

My advice: take the job...upgrade ASAP and move on to SWA, AT, CAL, etc...

Hiney,
ASA is a delta connection airline owned by Skywest. They fly white airplanes with red and blue tails. CRJ CR7s and ATRs.

The rumor was 1200/200 but they seem to be interviewing folks with much less. I agree with what nueva said but I am SLC based most of the pilot group is very senior on the captain side (i.e. old guys, but fun). As far as the contract, there has been allot of progress made in the past few weeks. Apparently Mr. Atkins wants it done asap and they are making some headway. I like it here, feel free to pm if you have any questions.

I think the ATRs will be gone by August 2007. And last I heard the current capt upgrade was 5yrs. They do pay fairly well as far as a regional goes though. Pretty much gotta live in Atlanta though.

I've got two friends in training with them right now. They were told to expect many hundreds of people in class behind them. I got off the phone with one of my buds two days ago and they received word that ASA had canceled the classes after them - for now.

Reserve - 6 to 12 months, however with no new classes it's "indefinate" right now.
Upgrade - 5 years plus.

That's what he told me.

Oh, and $19.02/hr first year. Ouch.

Different strokes for differnt Folks dude. Maybe its worth it to some people not to take the risk of jumping to a major carrier and starting over at the bottom of another list. Some might view it as a selfish desire to fly bigger airplanes and putting the family at risk for it. Is it worth being gone from home more and missing out on the "1st" from kids and such? Can you live on 90K a year? Is your life going to now feel complete that you "fly for a major"? Is making an extra 40K a year worth all the trouble? Is it worth leaving a flexible schedule at a regional to once again be the bottom bitch on reserve? Maybe these things have crossed their minds.
