Since you all say to get the cfi, can you tell me of an affordable school that can do the training in a complex aircraft since that is what the FAA requires?

What flight training does the FAA require? You need a spin endorsement - that will probably be the more difficult thing to find. Doesn't matter what you get it in, so long as spins aren't prohibited. It almost certainly won't be in whatever plane you use for the checkride.

An Arrow goes for about $150/hour around here. I suspect you can find dozens of FBOs with suitable aircraft for around that price.

While there are no stupid questions, in this case, you are asking the wrong questions. The CFI isn't like most ratings, where you go to a school and they teach you to be a CFI. For the most part, you teach yourself to be a CFI. Study the Advisory Circulars, the PTS and ACS, and the FAA publications. Write your own lesson plans for every certificate, endorsement and flight review. Write your own syllabus for yourself getting the Instructor certificate. This will take you a few months. It will also cost you exactly $0.

Once you do all of that, find a CFI to sign you off for the checkride. That is in fact the easy part.
