Any info about Skybus?

Sorry we don't do Kool-Aid here (much). Skybus lowers the bar for the piloting profession. Lower wages and crap QOL at Skybus just gives every airline management team more ammunition to use against their own pilot groups. That's why pilots in general don't much care for people that grossly undercut them and degrade their chosen profession.

It's always tough to leave the emotion out of these discussions, but please, everyone, lets stick to valid talking points and try to avoid any nasties. I'd like to leave the big stick over in the corner.

It's kind of hard watching a thread go this direction when someone has a legit question, but it also pains me that he actually didn't know the elemental basics of the job when he applied.

ya know what i'm not running away crying. I'm not a wussy housewife you all probably think I am. I stopped him from going to compass and its awhile until he sits and talks with them so don't all of you get your panties in a bunch because you think a group of pilots are degrading your profession. Why don't you go back to your cockpit and sleep.

I know it's been answered already, but:

  1. you asked a question
  2. you got several of the same answers
  3. the answers weren't what you wanted
  4. now you pop off to the very people you asked...
  5. so...........
  6. if you had the answers, why did you ask again?

Tip 3: Even though Skybus doesn't have a check-in desk at the gates--at least I didn't see one--the other passengers will tell you which line to stand in.

In this mishmash of lines, I didn't see a Skybus person in the mix. Someone was calling out flights over the loud speaker. Not long before it was time for us to board, that loud speaker person said, "No food is allowed on a Skybus flight." I thought of the bag of snacks and bagels I so cleverly packed. "Give me a peach," I called out to my husband and ate it like a mad woman. We finished off the fruit before boarding-I took one more bite before showing our boarding passes to the person who had magically appeared at the gate, but we didn't dump the packaged snacks. No one checked.

Sounds like a quality operation to me. Not to be confrontational in anyway, but I would listen to the advice that these pilots are giving you. This is a reputable source of info, and they answered your question about "any info regarding skybus..." The info they gave is pretty spot on as far as I am concerned. I wish your husband the best of luck in finding a quality job in the aviation field-of which there are many.

Why should we not care about other companies in our career field bringing down the industry? No matter what companies like this will effect the industry in some way, especially when it comes time for contract negotiations because most companies try to take an average for the pay scales (as I understand it). So now if you have more and more low quality companies such as this, guess what the average is going to come down.
 
Ma'am, I'm not sure why you've felt the need to go on the defensive, especially with comments like "Why don't you go back to your cockpit and sleep.". You asked a question, and we've given you our opinion of it, in a pretty non-hostile way I might add. If you use the "search" function and put in "skybus", it'll bring up any post/thread with the use of that word, so that would give you access to pretty much everything written here about Skybus.



And housewives ain't wussy. At least this one isn't ;)

When many are avoiding Skybus, for reasons unknown, your husband should jump in thereby establishing super seniority. Then, in a few years when the boys jump ship from AA, AK, DL and CO, your husband will be senior to them all. Aviation is a thinking man's game and you and your husband are on track to out think all the naysayers and unenlightened that have offered their lame opinions here. Seriously, you, your husband and Skybus are a perfect fit. Good Luck!

I applied to Skybus and even got an interview. I showed up in a navy blue suit with a red tie, and was nearly thrown out. Much to my dismay, everyone interviewing was wearing lederhosen! I felt pretty silly, that's for sure.

They didn't put us up in a hotel for the interview, but suggested a nice bus stop only 2 blocks away. They wisely advised us to leave our wallets at the facility so we wouldn't be robbed. When we went back the next day, they said any money missing from our wallets would be applied to our first paycheck as a deduction. Like taxes, they said. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

The interview went well - I asked if they paid industry-standard wages for their aircraft type and they said yes - but that they were on a 2 to 1 year rig pay system. Apparently that means for every 2 years worked you get one years pay credit, so you can't beat that.

Tell your husband good luck, and don't forget to get the lederhosen.

(PS - tell him to not mention the GED - they don't like excessively book smart people.)
 
I heard a rumor skybus is allowing pilots with flight simulator 2004 time too....y'all hear anything like that?

There is a huge disconnect here. I can't possibly fathom why someone would deter someone from going to Compass and (apparently) encourage Skybus????

I have to ask now, how can you be serious!? This airline is a literal cattle car that treats its PAX like garbage and I am sure it's flight crews like garbage too.

I do not have a four year degree, and I work for a great company. I would have to agree with everyone here it is a crap job, does your husband have a felony on his record then it might be a great job!

Is your husband not smart enough to use his GED to find a job himself, sounds like he going to do whatever you tell him to do.
