Any Frontier guys here?

Hey I am curious about Frontier.

A buddy and I have been talking shop and speculating but the truth is we don't know much. Who on JC actually works there? Can you tell us what it is like and what you forecast for the company? How long would it take an FO to get into DEN? What are the chances of an east coast domicile? How's the company culture and COL?
Thanks!

There are a few of us on here.

F9 is currently very much in flux right now as we continue our transition into ULCC. The flux encompasses every facet of the business: our product, our culture, our people, our leadership, and our customers. You can feel it everywhere.

Many are optimistic about the future and looking forward to the success of this business model. Others are saddened by the loss of a truly beloved airline and slowly coming to grips with the fact that it is gone forever.

From a pilot's perspective, right now things are just "OK" IMO. Our contract and works rules are decent enough, though there is always room for improvement. We are currently the lowest- paid Airbus operators in the US, largely due to 3 rounds of concessions we took in BK. First year pay is abysmal. We have several scheduled pay snap- backs for the next few years until our contract becomes amendable in 2017. We believe we have a good case for significant improvements in the new contract, but no one expects it to be easy to get them.

Many new hires are getting DEN right away, but I believe the wheels are in motion for it to shrink to the point where there will eventually be displacements to ORD or a base to the east that has yet to be announced.

Everyone expects an East coast base. PHL, IAD, ATL, MCO have all been mentioned, mostly by people with no real facts, so who knows...

In a nutshell, I would say this place is very much an experiment. I have been here 9+ years, upgraded this Summer, and am doing absolutely everything I can (including being here ;) ), to get on somewhere that is more aligned with my values and family priorities. Many agree with my decision. Others look at me like I'm nuts!

Is it a smart move to come here, to stay here, or to move on? I dunno. Ask me again in 20 years!!!

I am not a spokesperson for F9 or anything else for that matter.

I totally agree with this above. Frontier used to be one of my favorite airlines to fly / commute on. Sad to see them go to the Spirit business model.

I didn't even realize you guys were going the ULCC route. That sucks. I rode on you about five years ago and loved the product.

F9 is my favorite airline to work with pilot wise(operationally, no, just no). Almost always the pilots are super friendly and are in high spirits which is noticeable day in and day out. The route model is interesting, this summer they'll be doing SFO-DEN/ORD/IAH/PHX/STL...never would have guessed that 3 years ago. They're well established in some of the bigger airports like SFO that other ULCCs like Allegiant and Spirit(who serve most of those same cities from Oakland across the bay) avoid. Maybe that will help them. I do miss the old Frontier though, they were my favorite airline to fly on for years. I owe some great DEN gate agents a few beers for sure, and I was upset to hear about all the outsourcing. Just tonight confusion between the two contractors and the airlines dispatch lead to a fiasco at work. Airlines really do get what they pay for...

Any Frontier guys have a temporary room for rent in DEN for training by chance? Or perhaps anyone else?

Going to training. I was somewhat trying to find someone with an extra room so I can have a quiet place to study. I might just end up needing to use a crashpad.
I would suggest the Staybridge. If you can split a room, even better. If not the hotel has a dual room suite that would be worth bunking with a class mate. They have dinner and drinks tue-thur. Good way to save a few bucks on meal and some of your classmates will stay there. Good way to study up in the evening. Also if you are commuting, go home on the weekends. It's encouraged. Come sims, they will probably have other locations for you to go which will pay perdiem for a few weeks and earn hotel points.

Welcome aboard!

Congrats and welcome aboard! No need to sweat training. They do a good job of keeping it relaxed and easy. Even Scooter made it through!

If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to pass on Scooter's contact info.
Thanks... :fury:

Seriously though show up with a POSITIVE humble attitude ready to learn and it will make a world of difference. Feel free to PM though for other questions.
