Any Air Wisconsin Folks?

Lol. Unfortunately RAH recruiters get a lot of people with the “we fly shiny new jets with engines under the wings and it’s practically an Airbus because of engines under the wings.”
Yeah but Delta wants wing mounted turbine time..........

I keep hearing Envoy has the worst reserve rules of almost any regional...I have to say that's one thing giving me pause about Envoy. Air Whisky and Envoy are 1 and 2 on my list.
I'll pirep in few months on that )))

Towards the end of the issue is a decent grid comparing things. Mostly up to date. Of the things I noticed are bases, Envoy per diem went up to 1.90 I believe. Travel bennies with Envoy are vastly superior if you're into that sort of thing

Even with the new United deal, Air Wisconsin's main problem is having only 50 seaters and IMO United's future plans for 50 seat RJs spells trouble. I think if I was looking at a regional, I'd go one with what's in high demand today: 76 seater ERJ-175 jets. Pick a regional that has fleet growth coming, instead of a stagnant 50 seater only.

The thing is, he's in ORD.
Yeah, theoretically Envoy has some growth on the 175 side. Practically something like 50 140s are being pulled from the desert and put back online and the chances of getting into a 175 are slim to none unless you're pipeline CFI or >50 years of age.

Seems to me that only thing that matters is "Where do you want to live?" If you want to live near Chicago, Milwaukee, or Dulles, then apply to AWAC. Everything else is a crap shoot. For that matter, even bases are a crap shoot, as long term AWAC pilots can tell you.

Living in base will do more to add to your quality of life than anything related to pay or work rules.

Aren't you a dispatcher?

I think an extra point in Envoy's favor is the increased likelihood ORD remaining a crew base in the long term versus the contract carriers, given that ORD is an AA hub and Envoy is an AA wholly owned. In the undesirable event that you end up having to call your regional airline 'home' for longer than planned, there is some piece of mind that comes with having dAAddy pay for everything and living in his backyard (ORD).

We will be seeing increases in wages/contract QOL at all 3 AA wholly owned carriers before too long, in response to Endeavor and others.

Food for thought. (plus, you know you want to get back in the fAAmily. ;) )

I'm betting on a pay bump by September. For now the classes are filling just fine and the whole thing runs like a well oiled machine - ATP classes start three times a week, class every two weeks and the numbers in those pretty much doubled in a year. Uberloyal pipeline dudes (to be honest, they are treated very well, no reason not to be loyal), backlog of RTP guys, fancy 45k bonus for the soon to be LGA CAs.
But also forced upgrades that pretty much cleared up the eligible FO seniority list, getting displaced while waiting it out to upgrade in base/equipment etc. I think all that is going to settle by the time I get my 1000 hrs 121, but going from a 6 year upgrade to basically street CA in a year is quite something.

The benefit for me is that I still have 6 or 7 months to see what shakes out in the industry...

More like AA wholly owned airlines in general have the worst reserve.

I'm facing the same dilemma: I'm transitioning from the military as a helicopter pilot (already have all my ATP prereqs [hours + ratings] knocked out) and am going to live near ORD. Envoy, Air Wisconsin, and SkyWest are on my short list right now.

Air Wisconsin interests me the most, but I find their situation problematic. United is scoped out and their pilot group is unlikely to budge when their renegotiate their contract around January 2019. United leadership has gone on record recently stating they're looking to get away from 50-seaters. AWAC is definitely a gamble and I'm not convinced that I'd be seeing an upgrade in 2 years or less.

Envoy has a terrible contract and work rules, but they have the flow. I don't plan on flowing (it's what, 9+ years right now?), but I do like that the flow guarantees steady attrition. Plus, I can reasonably be assured they're gonna be in ORD for awhile. Quick upgrades are a thing for the foreseeable future.

SkyWest seems to be well-managed, but all their flying in the Midwest seems to be under threat from wholly-owned carriers (mainly Endeavor and Envoy).

I've got about 6 months until I need to pull the trigger and make a decision -- a lot can and will more than likely happen.

I've started looking at Endeavor as well, AWAC/Endeavor at this point. AWAC has a 5 year deal with United, my gut says they get "bought" by UAL to become a WO, and we see them flying 175's in the next few years.

Endeavor is an easy ish commute to DTW...plus money.

Move to Grand Rapids (or even better, Kalamazoo) and it's an even easier drive.

Woohoo, congrats!
Why Air Whiskey if you don't mind sharing?
ORD base, I know Envoy has one too, but I like that small family feel of ZW. The flow at Envoy doesn't impress me considering it's 9 or 10 years, I really hope I wouldn't need that...but I get why it's attractive. The contract at ZW was a big factor as well. During the interview session yesterday we asked about negotiations on a new contract, and they were told the company said bring them a copy of Endeavor's contract and they'll sign it right now...which should tell you something. Not saying Whisky is perfect, but those reasons, plus health insurance (3 kids) and relatively short upgrade made it the right choice for me. That said, who knows how it will all play out.
