First, the NMB hasn't changed the rule officially yet. They've issued a proposed change in the Federal Register, which is the first step, but they're holding closed-door hearings so interested parties can comment. It's still expected that the rule will change when it's all said and done, since President Obama has done a good job of putting pro-labor people in place on the NMB, but it isn't actually done yet.
Second, I don't see ALPA seeking out SkyWest pilots for another organizing drive just as a result of this rule change. It would take a highly-motivated group of SkyWest pilots to come to ALPA and make a convincing case that the vote would be a success. Lots of money was spent on the last drive, and we just don't have the money to spare right now on an unsuccessful and expensive campaign.
Todd,
It's not really up to you to decide what is and what is not a good decision for ALPA national. If your not going to support another drive here, I think your time would be better spent lobbying your MEC to keep us from launching EMB-190's on the west coast and flying it for 50 seat wages.
After reading about how upset you were with that announcement, you'd think you'd be really happy to hear about another union drive here.
