Another Skywest ALPA Drive

Looks like the troops that voted no last time are starting to get pissed and see the light. I wonder if ALPA is gonna give Skywest pilots another chance? Things to consider:

*NMB rules have changed
*one year upgrade gone
*continued erosion of pay and benefits
*continued "secret" firing of pilots for being human

I wonder if thats enough reason to change their minds?

Hey Segg, you got that number to truck masters?

I can't. Our legal counsel has explained that we cannot comment on any public forum about the private company matters anymore. Someone else who doesn't work for us can.

I'm all for an organizing drive over there, but I've got to say I'm a little leery about seeing my dues money buy ya'll pizza AGAIN and getting no ROI out of it.

The majority still do not want anything to do with alpa. How many more failed alpa drives do we need to make you people leave us alone?

That is not true, the majority simply do not follow things closely enough to have an opinion either way.

Show them how their wallets and futures are affected, and opinions will be formed. It's just a matter of cutting through the apathy with specifics.

Are you still under the illusion that the only reason you guys lost last time is because so many people didn't vote? I've got news for you, the only way you can vote "no" in an election like that is by not voting. If you vote for anything even if you write in anyone it still counts as a "yes" vote for representaion, that is why only 35% voted. I bet only 5 to 10% were "apathetic".

But you may get lucky now that the pro-union crowd has convinced the NMB to stack the deck in favor of unions.

I still ask the question in the SLC crewlounge every so often and it is almost always 100% against.

I dont think you speak for the majority. And this time around, we're going to really see who does or does not want a union since the NMB is changing the rules. Its only fair.

The new NMB rule is not fair, It's the union money that has bought that change. The rule IF changed would require Everyone in the company to vote, and that is not possible. It is just makes it easier for a vocal minority to force their agenda on the majority.

Btw I doubt alpa will want to do anything with us for a long long time. It has only been two years since that horrible defeat and nobody but a few people on our forums are talking about it.

You could also argue that Corp money made the rules so that a absent vote was counted as a no vote. Thus, all the people apathetic to the cause would be counted as against. Works both ways.

And your doubt is incorrect. You will know why soon.

Just out of curiousity, has the thought ever crossed your mind that maybe where you live has influenced and skewed your view of what is actually in your best interest?

I find it very funny that folks from the UT area are anti union, yet they are the worker bees, and they get their anti union ideas from a place where everyone meets on Sundays. And if you do some digging, you start to put the puzzle together and see that those guys(and i do mean guys cuz women are not given positions of power) who run the show on "sundays" are the owners of all the businesses in UT. Gee, I wonder why they advocate to be anti union? Could it be because it means less money for them and a better quality of life for you.

This isn't a attack on your religion. Trust me. It's a thought that maybe theres phonies in every religion, that use its name, for their benefit. Kind of like how the crazy terrorists are using Islam as their reason behind their craziness.

Only a irrational person would buy into their way of thinking.

Why? Changing the status quo for EVERYONE should require a majority of everyone. Unless they made it so you don't have to join the union and you can keep your 2%.

I knew that attack on SLC would come, it always does. For your information i'm not LDS.

is that all this is about? Really? 2%? If you do the math, you'll see that you've lost waaaay more than 2% in pay and benefits since 9/11. It comes out to roughly 2.5% COLA increases that we haven't gotten. Multiply that by 8 years and you get roughly 20%. Thats not even taking into account a pay raise.

Lets say you're a 5 year captain, you're pay rate is about $66/hr. It would have been $79 had we kept up with inflation. Thats not counting a pay raise.

I know how you feel, trust me. I can't tell you how much it burned to see guys openly tell me they were just using ALPA for the food. If it makes you feel any better, I only got two lunches out of it, even though I organized for over 2 years.

I don't have to be part of ALPA at ExpressJet. Although if I opted out, I'd still have to pay a certain amount for the administration of the contract I work under.

It doesn't stop at LDS. Thats why I mentioned its not an attack on your religion, but rather location. I just flew with an FO who hated ALPA very much, just like you, and he wasn't LDS.

Its not just the 2%, you make it seem like nothing bad can happen once alpa is voted in. We are a regional airline, it will and has ALWAYS been about being the cheapest. We don't fly for oursleves we bid of RFPs from other airlines if we get out of a certain cost box we shoot ourselves in the foot. Just look at our bad luck with the recent UAL RFPs and imagine that to become the norm.

Would you rather be stagnent for 3 years but make 2 or 3 bucks more or have more movement which leads to better pairings and QOL due to a higher relative seniority?

Also why alpa? Their mission is to make sure regionals get as little flying as possible, how can you expect to have them represent our best interests?

I still don't understand what you mean by my "location". I am sick of people attacking SLC and thinking that we're all just a bunch of crazy mormons, I live in SLC because I like the city there are low taxes and crime and I live close to work, It is the only city in the Skywest system with a low cost of living.
