Another hiring rumor...

So I'm talking to an upper-management/pilot guy yesterday in the lounge and he drops a line like:

"Even if we only end up hiring 500 pilots next year..."

So it might be in excess of 500 pilots that Southernjets Innanashnul is hiring in 2007.

Unsubstantiated, of course.

Was it an upper-management guy from US Air?

Me: "I'll ro-sham-bow ya for it, Joe"

Joe: "...what's that mean?"

Me: "Just say yes"

Joe: ".....yes?"

Me: "I've already won"

A conversation I had while living with another JC member this last summer.

It's kind of my motivational reminder that if a farm boy from Alabama can join the Army to fight an enemy which he had no beef with, I can pretty darned much do anything.

Speaking of "no beef with" and "pretty darned much do anything" after hanging out in South Korea a lot lately some things really have been driven home to me.

1) Older Koreans love Americans and go out of their way to come up to me and talk. I just had a long conversation with one such man whose son is a doctor in the US Army. They really appreciate being saved from the hell taking place just to their north.

2) Taking off from INC at night and looking up towards the north to see nothing but darkness brings home the idea that the communists were definitely an enemy worth fighting. (I had relatives in that war too.)

3) We all owe people like your dad and everyone else who has served or is serving a huge debt.

All obvious stuff, but visiting the DMZ of a not so distant war really is a reminder.

Doug,

With regards to your father, and I apologize if this has been mentioned somewhere, but what part of Alabama was he from? I grew up just south of Birmingham, and the mention of Alabama sparked my attention.

Thanks.

Rumors are good. But it would be nice if they recalled all the furloughed pilots first!

Official DL letter:

Dear Delta Pilot,

Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing with you our intent to begin accepting pilot applications immediately and to begin interviewing pilot candidates early next year. That was exciting news, and was a clear indication that we were getting close to offering recall to all of our furloughed pilots. Today I am pleased to announce that our Furlough Outreach Coordinator has sent letters offering recall via UPS next-day air to our furloughed pilots in seniority order – including the final letter sent to Troy Kane, the junior pilot on the Delta seniority list. This is a significant event for all of us, especially for Troy and the other Delta pilots who have waited for more than five years for the opportunity to return to the Delta line. Please take the time to congratulate them in the training center and in the lounges over the course of the next few months.

I hear Amflight bought Delta.

Yeah, well I heard Delta is buying Airnet!!!:) "Anybody have the number to that truckdriving school, Truckmasters I think it is???" I think I'm going to go to the All ATP regional hiring thing in JAX for the fun of it!

What are you doing up this early????? As for me, going to get a good 4 hour nap in soon, then back to work for me!

Had a doctors apt. this morning! I've gotta take a nap this afternoon before I go into work or I'm hosed.

Good news. Will probably bypass because income is much better now than early FO rates and wait to see about the merger. That is what most are doing--caution to those that jump in--a bunch of furloughed pilots may eventually accept recall and, with it, advanced seniority to new hires.

I was one of the ones that got my app in on the first day. I'm originally from the ATL and getting on there would be perfect. I grew up with a number of now retired DL guys... got their recs in for me.

A bit of a gamble with them still being in BK, but I'm 25 and figure it's well worth the risk.
