If that upsets you, wait till we all have to start wear special helmets in the cockpit and control everything with our mind! (enter Twilight Zone theme music)

Some of us just don't like getting our weather from anything other than a briefer or a Telex. No biggie.

Well, most of us can't legally get weather from anywhere except them or a QICP, which rules out 99% of weather sites on the internet. Even aviationweather.gov.

I doubt the FAA really cares but it is interesting.

A pilot not learning to use technology would be like an A&P tossing their ATP Navigator CD in the trash and going back to doing AD searches the old fashioned way.

Heh, a shop here in town has every maintenance manual they have scanned and available on their computers in a digital form (can be printed if needed.) Instead of having a stack of like 300 decrepit books.

Before that they had everything on microfiche.

They're (aviationweather.gov) working on that, you know. Not sure when it officially becomes QICP qualified, but they've got it up on their site that they're working on it.

Imagine that... Technology!

My favorite thing when I show students the room where the a/c logs are, is to show them the MicroFische reader that the mech's used to use!!! HAHA they always give me a blank stare. C'mon, I'm only 28, and I remember learning about it as a fundamental tool @ the public library. Haha! :p

I agree that the 6 pack is a fundamental pilot skill that we can't afford to lose in the era of technology that we are now in, BUT, use the damn gear that you have available to you....always. Just know what to do when in goes Tango Uniform

In the era of Technology there will soon be no 6 pack. ;)

Heck I remember having to use those index cards at the Library...What PITA those were...

Pilots can be such Luddites. That is all.

Don't even get me started.

Lemme guess, is it the "I'm too COOOL to carry a laptop" type one minute.

Then later on, "Hey, did the bids come out yet/can I check my email/can you check the loads for the Miami flight?"

Khaki-slacks with running shoes, golf-shirt, shirt tucked into 501's sans belts wearing luddites alright! :)

He probably would be, but his airline shut down on him while he was overseas on his honeymoon...

Does anyone miss the scan you could have with round gauge... where when you saw the slightest budge in a dial and were able to make an appropriate correction on the spot. Now with these tapes you actually have to look at the number and process it!

Luckily in my glass cockpit, the gauges are still round with needles, they just are in digital form. Then again, I mostly use the HUD and velocity vector for most things :)
