OK, here it is.
"When I started flying, it was all 6 pack and now you've got a screen this big that has all of it. They're taking the brain out of the pilot and putting it into the airplane. I don't trust all that electronic garbage."
"Pilots these days don't know how to navigate without GPS"
"I'd go crazy flying an airplane with a sidestick. Airplanes should have yokes."
Now, all three of these we have gone in circles over on this website. But seriously man, did your CFI say the same thing when the AI was invented and pilots didn't need to fly needle, ball, and airspeed 100% of the time? Or when the VOR came to be, and nobody had to lose their hearing tracking a four-course range anymore? As for the sidestick thing, lighten up. Your position on that particular issue makes you sound like an A.net Boeing fanboy. It's an airplane. It flies like...an airplane. If you actually tried it, you might find it somewhat ergonomic. You know, unlike every airplane designed before the 90s.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
1. Glass panels do not make pilots stupid. Pilots have a LOOOONG history of doing stupid things without glass panels, and it seems likely that they'll have a long history of doing stupid things with glass panels.
2. The GPS is only a crutch if the instructor lets it be.
3. Not teaching someone to use their aircraft's technology to the fullest extent is just as bad as teaching them to use it as a crutch.
4. Perhaps if you took the time to learn the systems, you'd find that some of those newfangled gadgets might be just a titch more reliable than the riotous assembly of parts rotating, gimballing, spinning, balancing, diaphragming, sucking, blowing, and springing known as a conventional aircraft instrument panel.
5. No, your glass cockpit is not a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and leave you with only a whiskey compass on the instrument panel. In most of those systems, the only thing that will leave you completely hosed is an electrical discharge of such intensity that even in a steam cockpit you'd be up the same crap creek without a paddle.
This has been a Public Service Announcement from your local FBO eavesdropper.
