Annnnd it's already started...

If the guy crashed his car into the building, would there be talk of imposing security restrictions on motorists?

The story said:
"How are they going to stop it? This guy had a hangar, and he had access to the airport," said Beth Ann Jenkins, president of Pilot's Choice, a flight school near where Stack kept his Piper.
Travis McLain, manager of the airport, said: "I don't know of a rule or regulation or safety precaution that could have prevented what happened yesterday."
Exactly. The TSA can't read minds, heck, they can't read books either.

I understand reasonable security measures.. but Jesus, when did we become so wimpy? An asteroid could come slamming into us at any minute, so why not enjoy yourselves and stop worrying so much?

But if the asteroid has a flight plan then all is good. Right??????

The best way to control a society is to scare the hell out of them. Hell, it worked for the past eight years with the terror threat levels.

What could have been done to prevent this from occuring?

Oh a heck of a lot. Getting our troops out of foreign lands is the first step. Listening to Osama, a close second. They tried to tell us and the US Government wouldn't listen, so terrorist strikes were their attempt to get us to listen. Apparently it didn't work.

When you beat on someone enough eventually they bite back.

Ok I just have to mulitquote just about this entire thread to this point:

...Flying little tin cans reminecent of them crazy Wright brothers!

And just think how old all these flyin machines are buzzing around, they just can't be safe!

Yup ^^^

"Those who trade liberty for security deserve neither." Ben Franklin

Yup^^^with !!!!

Kinda like Nazi Germany...what about all the good things Hitler did?

Apparently not the American public...oh wait...that guy did fly a plane into a building and the other drove his truck up to another fed building with a bunch of explosives and and and... there is a long list of misfits here who do try to muck it up once in a while. As yoda chappelle would say 'smart they are not'. En mass the public could do something but it just wont come to pass.
You say you want a revolution ba ba ba

Again I say, Ryder Truck.

Flew with a guy who was turning left base @ OKC when the smoke went up from that one.

I can still rent one, no problemo... and drive it ANYWHERE!

*sigh*

"It wouldn't take much, even a minor incident involving two simultaneously attacking planes, to inflict enough damage to set off alarm bells and do some serious harm to the economy and national psyche."

Well, two simultaneous attacks from ANYWHERE can be easily carried out and F up the economy and national psyche, DB.

Im not just picking on you, but people always love to use hitler as an example of the ultimate evil doer, when in reality, everyone knows, a crazy effin dictator is no better than the people who support him. So who really is the bad guy? A crazy zealot (doesnt have to be hitler by the way) or the mass society who give him his power?

Wow that is quite the assumption on your part. I could give a rats you know what about being picked on by you. I was alluding to the fact that the US public has been frightened into giving up rights during the past 9 years similar to what went on in Nazi Germany. The Hitler statement was sarcasm...

Once again, the quest for the perfect and safe world. Reality.. meet illusion. Illusion.. meet reality.

Like the Toyota engine surge. The lady says she used her bluetooth to call her husband WHILE the car is accelerating so she could hear his voice one last time. ??? No problem solving going on.. just resignation.

The perfect and safe world. You could make more than Obama can spend if you can find a way to market that.

Bottom line: GA is dangerous, and all GA pilots are dangerous .

And AOPA is backing them.

:sarcasm:

OK that's simply priceless...... Hmmm I could either pop the car in neutral and brake to a stop, or panic, start screaming, and call my husband. Poor guy.....

She got front page/lead story. And truly, I am not trying to hammer her but she is, for me, indicative of a mentality that apparently believes life is to be lived passively.

I do wonder about the electronics in the car. So.. essentially Toyota is using a FADEC for their engine control. Dual channel? Performance limits? What?

But yes.. I have discussed this with my wife and daughters and all got it right. Neutral. Brake to a stop. Shut the engine off. Not rocket surgery.

She says she did all that.
