7 on 7 off would be awesome, especially since we have jumpseat privledges(vs air ambo, and charter, yes I know some of them pay more...)I'd like to comment on AMF's staffing issues. Maybe they are already putting something in the works.
Here goes.
With the regionals having staffing issues, (I don't know, I just read that on the internet) maybe places like AMF could benefit from getting some fresh ticket Commercial rated pilots to be SIC's or something until they reach 500 TT and then use them on some VFR routes. Get those guys to 1200 TT and then have them as PIC's for say 6-12 months. Then let them move on to the regionals, or wherever they desire. Yes, it seems kinda like a revolving door, but if they kept fresh blood coming in the pipeline something like this might work. It would obviously be low pay for the SIC's, but I believe AMF could be a great place for new pilots to really learn the ropes. If the airlines want good candidates in the right seat, whats better than to have them already familiar with commercial ops.
Also, if AMF offered a 7 on 7 off schedule or something similar, with an appropriate pay structure for those types of schedules, I might be all over it. I think it could potentially open up their operation to pilots willing to commute to work. If AMF has decent jumpseat agreements, I could see it working.
Oh well, just some thoughts. Party on Garth

I'd be happy with our current weekends off with the addition of a week off. 13-14 days off is closer to a regional guy's schedule. Still less flexibility due it being a rotation, but it's a step in the right direction. I mean, what pilot on this earth got into flying to actually fly/work all the time??? haha
It's been brought up already and been seriously considered as far as I know. There's just not enough people to do it. BQN would need 3 E120 captains and FOs and at least 5 Metro guys to do it with one reserve each day. We DID have that at one point... haha With dual-qualed guys, it could be a one less for both actually. That's a small base though. It'd be pretty hard to get it to work at bigger bases, stateside. Pretty much impossible and stupid expensive to do it on outstation runs. I've always thought freight flying wouldn't be so bad if everything was in-station. Good luck getting UPS to cut Saturday runs or pay for empty legs though. Omaha is a fun city for example. Broken Bow, NE, not so much...True that, who wants to work hard
I thought bringing these points would be good if anyone from AMF management is reading. For example a 7 on 7 off, or 12 on 7 off would be great. If I live in PHX and they need me to cover a route or fly routes in say Buffalo, well I could do it. I could commute to work and then go home for a few quality days off with my family. No way in heck I'm moving though, but if I could commute it could work. If AMF has jumpseat agreements that work for their bases it's possible.

The schedules are basically dictated by the customer (UPS). How in the world would AMF be able to have 7 on 7 off schedules when they pretty much don't have flying on the weekend? Just the amount of staffing that would be required for that schedule would be incredibly cost prohibitive. Working at AMF is a trade off schedule wise. You need to live in base, but you are home every night. Of course the whole outstation based thing is BS and that should change. Regional pilots are rarely home every night which is why they get more actual days off.
You're only home every night if you consider 5-6 hours in your own bed before you have to go back to work home. Regional pilots have a better family life gone 20 day a month. Don't let the " home every night" bs fool you. Yes, you technically are, but it's just long enough to shove some food down your throat, get a nap and be back at it.The schedules are basically dictated by the customer (UPS). What are you doing these days?

I'm glad I made it out alive and that you don't really realize how bad it is until you leave for a better job.
Oh I saw the light before even going into freight! Mainline 121 is the only 121 I'll leave for. I said there's things AMF can't touch in regards to the regionals, but there's work things at the regionals that would drive me insane.I look forward to @UAL747400 seeing the light lol.
Eh, spirit and frontier are realistic. I'd rather "check the box" there and move on if I don't like it.lIf you'll only leave for mainline 121, I hope you'll invite me to your AMF retirement party in 30 years![]()
