I'm not aware of any specific guidance on not putting cargo somewhere. We'll, except for your lap. That would be frowned upon, but even then, I don't think it's in writing that you can't. :)

I don't/didn't fly the Chieftain or 1900 though.

The wing lockers were discouraged because a few people didn't lock them properly and a couple of bank bags slipped out on the runway during takeoff. The nose in the chieftain was discouraged because it was basically the nose door of death if you didn't lock it properly. But, obviously you are not going to bump cargo to avoid using those bays. Just use them only when necessary.

I'd put a few boxes on the right seat sometimes. Best FO I ever had.

I remember seeing a certain lime green metro once where the dude had to shovel his way into the cockpit just to get the door shut like a hoarder's house.

Caravan pod will get stuff wet through mod-heavy rain. Really though every flight check all the holes every time the same way. Even some more astute drivers tried to un latch the cowling to check for freight so I showed them the permanently installed freight up there.

I would always try and put my bag in the nose. So if you ever put cargo in it you would always remember, now the pod that's for bikes, kayaks, guns, wild game and red heads.

Gotcha the rain part makes sense.

I usually tell the UPS driver to wait until I I verify that no more cargo is in the wing lockers or nose before he or she departs to decrease the occurrence of forgetting cargo at my operator. I was more curious since I was talking to a current AMF pilot about it. A lot of my loads are so heavy/bulky/big boxes that I have to utilize all available space.

Thanks for answering.
Yup. The permission is more for letting someone else know the cargo is in the wing lockers rather than safety issues.

Yeah, I'm intimately familiar with the nose door. It's just something you have to check every time before you hop in the plane. If the pilot does close it and it pops open though, either the pilot or the mechanics are functionally retarded. It's really a quite robust system if you don't circumvent the safety features like people were doing before the AD was issued.

Year.....Equipment......Old Pay........New Pay
1..........Chieftan.........$28,000........$34,000

1...........BE99.............$28,000.......$34,000
2...........BE99.............$30,076.......$36,500

1...........1900/Metro....$40,456......$44k - metro../..$45k - 1900
2 ..........1900/Metro....$40,747.......$44,500...../......$45,500

2...........EMB-120.......$45,157.......$53,000
3...........EMB-120.......$46,300........$54,000

That is not a bad raise. The one bad thing that I do see so far is that the yearly bonus went down from 10% to 7%. This table is BASE pay, without yearly bonus. The pay raise really isn't as high for the people that stay for a few years, as the bonus has dropped quite a bit.

Brasilia FO's (First Year - can't imagine anyone doing it more than 1 year)
Old $23,670
New $25,000.

Here's an apples to apples comparison.... If someone works hard and does't mind taking any base available, here is a sample pay scale (YMMV)

Old Pay
Year 1,BE99, $28,000
Year 2, BE1900, $44,822 (with bonus)
Year 3, BE-1900, $45,165 (with bonus)
Year 4, EMB-120, 53,082 (with bonus)
.
Three year compensation = $171,069
.
.
New Pay
Year 1, BE99, $34,000
Year 2, BE1900, $50,050
Year 3, BE1900, $51,150
Year 4, EMB-120, $60,500
.
Three year compensation = $195,700

Thus, after 4 years, the total pay raise is 14.5%

You could do it faster, currently. 99-EMB-120 captain in a year and 8 months for me
