Ameriflight to lay off

Talking to some sources in the junior bases, bottom guys are line pilots. So, if someone wants to chime in on some official info on those 11, that will make it not so much of a rumor. The class, a pilot was just about to start and the training captain got the call to shut down. Bummer.

I haven't heard anything about furloughed pilots yet.

I am most certainly in the bottom 11 on the seniority list, and the only information I have comes from this forum. I flew this morning, and am typing this from my layover...

This in an indicator that the economy is not moving along as the news media would like to have us believe.
Agreed.

When OPEC sticks us all with ever increasing oil prices, this is where we end up today in America.

Oil has doubled in price over the past 12 months and these jokers seem to think they can just increase the price of oil, "because the economy is moving".

This country is in trouble folks and OPEC has us by the balls even though very little of our oil comes from OPEC countries. Most of our imported oil in the US comes from Canada.

We are all being royally screwed here.

News flash for ya, Joe: it ain't OPEC screwing us, it's speculators in the oil futures market.

"The rampant and unregulated speculation in this commodity has crippled and handicapped the U.S. airline industry while severely impacting the U.S. consumer. We need to let supply and demand determine what consumers pay, not speculators in an unregulated environment."

Does anyone know for sure if ANY line pilots are getting furloughed or is this just BS?

I'm being blacklisted by a certain lawyer from the industry that still thinks he actually has pull in the aviation industry.

Well I'm going to take a wild guess and say if he was able to get you blacklisted that he still DOES have some pull.

Well this is the problem with the internet. I just spoke with one of the top guys over at AMF who assured me there are no furloughs or layoffs at this time. Just a simple case of a canceled class that got "internet-ed" out of proportion.

You can take the Dawg out of the 'ho but you can't get him away from the bone. Shouldn't you be playin with the xbox? :rotfl::D Sorry guys, ribbing commenced..

So the newest of the line pilots got laid off this morning, as well as the part-time-on-call pilots (which makes no sense) found out a few days ago.

I just talked to my friend at AMF, and he doesn't know anything about this.

Is it true that AMF has NEVER furloughed/laid off in the company's history?

They may claim that, but they have forced pilots from full time to part time on call with no minimum guarantee or benefits when they had too many. Sounds like the same thing to me.

News flash for you, aloft: it ain't speculators in the oil futures market "screwing" us, it's our own blind, naked greed. Speculators influence prices, certainly, but until we stop treating oil like food, we're at their mercy. I think they call that...Capitalism.
So you're saying, we're at the mercy of speculators due to the inelasticity of oil demand. I see. Thanks for proving my point.

Five. But, this is from my sorely misinformed contact. And he's pretty low on the totem pole over there.

Huh? Didn't you just get done saying this:
