I actually don’t remember if any of them were in JFK but I’ve done that dance with “oops I left my 2000 mA-h power bank in my gate check bag” a couple times

Hits a little different when they were on the same list. When I was new(er) here, I asked whether the "DLAMP (1, probably, at the time)" was in honor of Dinwiddie Lampton, a local cartoonish scion of horse-money, etc.

Well, that went over like a fart in a elevator, I can tell you, and rightfully so.

I try to honor their names on repeating back the arrival. Don't always get it, but never forget.
 
What are all you people using all these •ing power banks for? Good lord......

I own zero, and have no need for more than that, anywhere
 
There I was almost a decade ago doing a very odd job in an old 172 pretending to be a Predator orbiting and providing imagery for PMC training. The cigarette lighter wasn’t working to juice up my iPad so I’d procured a power bank so that the iPad would last as long as my gas did.

Yup, the power bank started swelling up after a few flights. Thought about dropping it out the window but I really didn’t want to start a wildfire if I didn’t have to. With 20/20 hindsight, what I was doing wasn’t all that important and I should’ve just landed. Instead I wrapped the power bank in my leather jacket, cracked the door, and put it right next to the door…figured if it started smoking I’d make a beeline for the runway and if it caught fire I’d kick it out. Again, really dumb in hindsight. Also, I became a believer and got a containment bag for my day job.

These days we have two containment bags per NearJet and quiz pax on any devices or batteries before loading luggage. We also brief that any baggage smoke indication we’ll treat with the urgency of a battery cooking off down there.

I thought it was a little ridiculous when we started putting them in our medevac Lears, but in hindsight was a really good idea. I don’t know what kind of batteries the vents and monitors used but if they were lithium that’s a lot of extra batteries
