American Airlines job fair

25 years ago I would have agreed with you. Now I am not so sure. I am not sure what part of the industry you are working in but I worked in major 121 for almost 30 years and the transformation has been extensive. SWA is a great company but does not have the advantages that it used to over the old USAir or American. So much capacity has been removed from the national system.

It could happen but it will take a long time and the majors will have to lie down and let it happen.

When you say run over AK, as in put them out of business or acquire/merge?
The only airline that has bought another and paid retail 'plus' for another in the last two decades was Alaska...everyone else bought the other while in bankruptcy or value was depressed due to market forces.

I don't work there but I don't see an ending where they continue to grow. I think Delta has a hard on to teach them a lesson and they won't relent until they are forced to.

JetBlue was smart to pass on that deal IMO. The management at AK just doesn't seem to know what to do with Virgin and they are losing their business customers to Delta. Honestly I would've rather have seen Alaska take on the Virgin brand vs what they did.

Fingers crossed for a future JetBlue merger :D

Well obviously no one knows the future.

If I were to guess
  • DL will eventually run AK over and eat into UA's market share on the west coast
  • The ULCC model will expand immensely. I don't know who will end up but both Frontier and Spirit have great business models
  • jetBlue and SWA will continue their growth based on being a value carrier
  • SWA will canabalize AA and UA market share while losing some to the ULCC's
That being said often times it's the stuff you don't see coming that changes everything.

Are you actively trying to leave AA?

You’re probably pretty close there. Personally I don’t see the ULCCs getting too big before they get gobbled up by whoever. If Europe is an example, which is about a decade ahead in ULCC growth. Ryanair just about pulled off a takeover of Alitalia last Fall.

It matches up with what I said the head of pilot recruiting said at that job fair...for all of the people that said I was saying something bad, there's the proof of what I heard. I was only conveying what I was told.
You can thank flows. Almost all thenflows are pure civilian, so if you are taking 50% flows, and you want a 50/50 mix of military/civilian there isn’t much room civilian OTS. I hate that it’s that way.

Exactly. Most of the flows are cool. However I definitely think there needs to at least be an interview or some sort of record review.

I like how psa has about twice as many pilots as piedmont and only flowed 7 more. It's a good thing they finally increased their flow to 10 a month. Also funny how envoy went from a 5ish year flow to now about 8-9 and showing no signs of decreasing. In a matter of a few months it seems they went from best to worst flow.

They’re already flying your customers.

Oh trust me I get that. But when you’re getting a potential multi-million dollar job i don’t think a simple interview is too much to ask.

Most guys are great but there’s definitely been a few who imo couldn’t come close to passing the “do i want to spend 4 days in the cockpit with this guy?” test.

So you want to subject yourself to an interview when you finally flow?

I'm pretty sure it was setup so you did that interview before you got to Envoy. Unfortunately, with the lack of pilots we all know you can get hired at a regional with a pulse and no murders in 12 months. So it's probably not working out as well as they imagined it would.

That's just what I thought, at least. I have yet to hear someone denied the AA flow/Envoy interview. I'm sure it happens.

Hell no. They should start it the day after, obvi.
